This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 7th IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Distributed Applications and Interoperable Systems, DAIS 2007, held in Paphos, Cyprus in June 2007. The DAIS conference was held as a joint event in federation with the 9th IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems (FMOODS 2007) and the 9th International Conference on Coordination Models and Languages (Coordination 2007).The 24 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 97 submissions. The papers address current research in context-awareness, adaptation, mobility, distributed applications and peer-to-peer computing, all of which relate to the sustainability of distributed applications and integrated systems. The papers are organized in topical sections on context-awareness, distributed applications, adaptation, peer-to-peer, and mobility.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee for Pervasive 2008, welcome to the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing. The year2008wasthesecondtimeinasmanyyearsthatthePervasiveconferencehas attempted to “globalize”: For the second year in a row the conference was held outside of Europe. The conference is seen as one of the most respected venues for publishing researchon pervasive and ubiquitous computing and captures the state of the art in pervasive computing research. In 2008, as in previous years, the proceedings present solutions for challenging research problems and help to identify upcoming research opportunities. Pervasive 2008 attracted 114 high-quality submissions, from which the Te- nical Program Committee accepted 18 papers, resulting in a competitive 15. 8% acceptance rate. There were over 335 individual authors from 27 countries,c- ing from a wide range of disciplines and from both academic and industrial organizations. Papers were selected solely on the quality of their peer reviews using a double-blind review process. The review process was carried out by 38 members of the international Technical ProgramCommittee (TPC) who are - perts of international standing. The TPC members were aided by 104 external reviewers. It wasa rigorousreviewprocess,in whicheachpaper had atleastfour reviews: three reviews provided by by the Committee members and one review written by an external reviewer. The reviews were followed by a substantive - liberation on each paper during an electronic discussion phase before the start of the Committee meeting.

ATC 2009 is a successor of the First International Workshop on Trusted and Autonomic Ubiquitous and Embedded Systems (TAUES 2005, Japan), the International Workshop on Trusted and Autonomic Computing Systems (TACS 2006, Austria), the Third International Conference on Autonomic and Trusted Computing (ATC 2006,China), the 4th International Conference on Autonomic and Trusted Computing (ATC 2007, Hong Kong), and the 5th International Conference on Autonomic and Trusted Computing (ATC 2008, Norway) Computing systems including hardware, software, communication and n- worksaregrowingdramaticallyinbothscale andheterogeneity,becoming overly complex.Such complexity is getting even more critical with the ubiquitous permeation of embedded devices and other pervasive systems. To cope with the growing and ubiquitous complexity, autonomic computing focuses on se- manageable computing and communication systems that exhibit self-awareness, self-con?guration, self-optimization, self-healing, self-protection and other self-x operationsto the maximumextent possible without humaninterventionorgu- ance. Organiccomputingadditionallyemphasizesnatural-analogueconceptslike self-organization and controlled emergence. Any autonomic or organic system must be trustworthy to avoid the risk of losing control and to retain con?dence that the system will not fail.
