Winner - British Council Innovation in English Language Teaching Award 2006 This book was written for language teachers by language teachers, with a view to encouraging readers to use more tasks in their lessons, and to explore for themselves various aspects of task-based teaching and learning. It gives insights into ways in which tasks can be designed, adapted and implemented in a range of teaching contexts and illustrates ways in which tasks and task-based learning can be investigated as a research activity. Practising language teachers and student professionals on MA TESOL/Applied Linguistics courses will find this a rich resource of varied experience in the classroom and a stimulus to their own qualitative studies.

I write for pleasure and when I feel strongly about something I find it much easier to be articulate writing my feelings down than trying to explain myself vocally. Some of the poems I wrote when my marriage broke down after twenty years are quite dark and depressing, but there is always the golden thread of hope running through which lifts the spirit at the end.It would be nice to think that readers of my work could relate to some of my sentiments, especially the humour in poems like The Ironing Pile and The Driving Test. Those of you who are grandparents could well feel the same as I did when my grandson was born in 1996, he was the inspiration for For Leo/And for all those of you with military connections, please look for Falkland Malvinas, To Keep The Peace For You & Me and Thanks To Wootton Bassett.Actually having my poetry published at last is a lifetime dream come true for me, and it will make me very happy indeed to have a few readers and for my poems to make them laugh, cry and think.

Timely and important revised edition of a significant, influential classic text which is still peerless in the field. This new edition builds on Jane Willis’s classic textbook to reflect the changing needs and priorities of language teachers in today’s classrooms. The book has been revised and expanded to reflect the widespread use of technology and the internet in language classrooms, as well as recent debates and developments in research on language learning. The book maintains the practical focus that has made the first edition of the book the leading resource on implementing Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) for over 30 years. Readers will find practical examples of task-based sequences and form focus activities for all levels, including beginners, that can be used in their own classrooms. It gives an integrated picture of TBLT that addresses the reasons for using this increasingly popular pedagogy, as well as addressing and suggesting solutions for potential difficulties.
