This richly illustrated book offers a concise overview of the geology of Egypt in the context of the geology of the Arab Region and Northeast Africa. An introductory chapter on history of geological research in Egypt sheds much light on the stages before and after the establishment of Egyptian Geological Survey (the second oldest geological survey worldwide), Hume's book and Said's 1962, 1990 books. The book starts with the Precambrian geology of Egypt, in terms of lithostratigraphy and classifications, structural and tectonic framework, crustal evolution and metamorphic belts. A dedicated chapter discusses the Paleozoic-Mesozoic-Cenozoic tectonics and structural evolution of Egypt. A chapter highlights the Red Sea tectonics and the Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba Rifts. Subsequent chapters address the Phanerozoic geology from Paleozoic to Quaternary. The Egyptian Impact Crater(s) and Meteorites are dealt with in a separate chapter. The Earth resources in Egypt, including metallic and non-metallic ore deposits, hydrocarbon and water resources, are given much more attention throughout four chapters. This book addresses the strategic georesources in Egypt in terms of their geologic settings, exploitation, environmental impacts and sustainable development. These resources developed in a wide variety of tectonic settings, ranging from compressional, transpressional, transtensional, wrenching to extensional. Some of them are related to specific depositional environments. A particular attention is given to the added values and economic importance of these resources. The book is aimed at young geoscientists, established researchers, and other professionals interested in geoscientists, especially those active in economic geology and related multidisciplines. It contains up-to-date basic materials, recent basic references and thematic maps, as well as valuable data that are rapidly accumulated in the last few decades about georesources in Egypt. Book chapters are authored by influential scholars and well-known scientists working in both academia and research institutions. Some chapters explore precious metals, placer mineral deposits and phosphate deposits. Others demonstrate building and construction raw materials, along with ceramic and porcelain raw materials. Fossil fuels (Oil, natural gas and coal) as a non-renewable source of energy in Egypt are also presented. Geoethics is a key discipline in the field of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and not only includes scientific, technological, methodological and social-cultural aspects, but also addresses the need to consider appropriate protocols, scientific integrity issues and a code of good practice when studying the abiotic world.The position of Latin America’s recently created geoethics associations is based on protection of the environment, together with a reassurance that the balance of nature and the rights of human beings to enjoy it will be preserved.
