This book takes the reader through the processes behind the current observed warming trend of the Earth’s atmosphere as a foundation to explore what we CAN do NOW to prevent harm from a warming climate. The book empowers the reader to separate the facts from the myths about the processes that drive global warming and the feasibility and effectiveness of the possible remedial actions. The main features that set this book apart from other books on climate change are:The recognition that the remedies against the harmful consequences of global warming must include enough energy supply to sustain an affluent lifestyle for all.A step-by-step quantitative analysis of global warming and its remedies that any reader with basic mathematical competence can verify, allowing readers to gain confidence in their understanding and assessment of the issues around global warming. The transparent, fact-based assessment of the viability, effectiveness, and affordability of the remedies offered by proven and emerging technologies.

This volume contains a collection of papers presented at the 3rd Interna tional Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE 2005) that is held at Awara-Spa, Fukui, Japan, September 20-22, 2005. This is a biennial symposium, which started as AMiRE 2001 at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 2001, and was followed by AMiRE 2003 at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, in 2003. After these successful symposia, AMiRE 2005 is held under the sponsorship of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Fukui and under the co-sponsorship of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. It is funded by the Fukui Convention Bureau and the University of Fukui. Each full-length paper submitted to the symposium was independently reviewed by 3 referees from the world's front-line researchers, and 55 papers were accepted for oral presentation. We acknowledge generous support for those who gave excellent reviews in order to maintain the high standards of the symposium despite a very tight schedule.

th This volume is an edition of the papers selected from the 12 FIRA RoboWorld C- gress, held in Incheon, Korea, August 16–18, 2009. The Federation of International Robosoccer Association (FIRA – www. fira. net) is a non-profit organization, which organizes robotic competitions and meetings around the globe annually. The RoboSoccer competitions started in 1996 and FIRA was - tablished on June 5, 1997. The Robot Soccer competitions are aimed at promoting the spirit of science and technology to the younger generation. The congress is a forum in which to share ideas and future directions of technologies, and to enlarge the human networks in robotics area. The objectives of the FIRA Cup and Congress are to explore the technical dev- opment and achievement in the field of robotics, and provide participants with a robot festival including technical presentations, robot soccer competitions and exhibits - der the theme “Where Theory and Practice Meet. ” th Under the umbrella of the 12 FIRA RoboWorld Congress Incheon 2009, six int- national conferences were held for greater impact and scientific exchange: th • 6 International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CIRAS) th • 5 International Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE) • International Conference on Social Robotics (ICSR) • International Conference on Advanced Humanoid Robotics Research (ICAHRR) • International Conference on Entertainment Robotics (ICER) • International Robotics Education Forum (IREF) This volume consists of selected quality papers from the six conferences.

This book contains the proceedings of the 3rd International Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE 2005) held in Awara-Spa, Fukui, JAPAN, from September 20 to 22, 2005. Autonomous mobile Robots are in high demand for education and entertainment, especially human-friendly robots such as small pet robots and small biped robots. Autonomous robots are also useful for research and higher education, in other fields than robotics. The symposium theme has been "highly intelligent technology for robots", to realize the autonomy in unknown and dynamic environments including humans.
