John Ashbery (1917-2017), amerikansk poet och konstkritiker, belönad med bland annat både National Book Award och Pulitzerpriset för sin "Självporträtt i en konvex spegel". Mellan 1974 och 1990 undervisade han vid Brooklyn College i New York och var professor vid Bard College i språk och litteratur mellan 1990 och 2008. Sedan debuten i början av 1950-talet gav han ut ett trettiotal diktsamlingar.
