The place in which we stand is often taken for granted and ignored in our increasingly mobile society. Differentiating between place and space, this book argues that place has very much more influence upon human experience than is generally recognised and that this lack of recognition, and all that results from it, are dehumanising. John Inge presents a rediscovery of the importance of place, drawing on the resources of the Bible and the Christian tradition to demonstrate how Christian theology should take place seriously. A renewed understanding of the importance of place from a theological perspective has much to offer in working against the dehumanising effects of the loss of place. Community and places each build the identity of the other; this book offers important insights in a world in which the effects of globalisation continue to erode people's rootedness and experience of place.

Reflections for Daily Prayer continues to be one of the most popular and highly valued daily Bible reading companions. Continuing its tradition of excellence, regular favourites and new contributors offer insightful, informed and inspiring reflections on the scripture readings of the day, based on the Common Worship lectionary for Morning Prayer. David Ford is the guest contributor for Holy Week. New voices this year include Gregory Cameron, the Bishop of St Asaph and author of the popular An Advent Book of Days and An Easter Book of Days; Chine MacDonald, author, broadcaster and Director of the religious think tank Theos; and Emma Parker, Deputy Warden of Cranmer Hall, Durham. For every day (excluding Sundays) of the 2024-25 church year, there are full references and a quotation from the day’s set of Scripture readings, concise and challenging commentary, and a collect. Also included is a simple order for Morning and Night Prayer, and additional helps for nurturing a habit of regular daily prayer.

A sparkling array of leading thinkers and writers in the Church of England bring scripture, doctrine, tradition and pastoral theology into conversation with culture and lived experience to frame a new understanding of sex and marriage that is both faithful to the past and embracing of the present, and counters accusations of an ‘anything goes liberalism’ by conservative opponents. Moving beyond the default arguments and the use of scriptures to shore up fixed positions, it offers a welcoming space grounded in theological understanding. Here is a bold, fresh, positive and coherent vision for the future.Contributors include: Miranda Threlfall-Holmes, Barnabas Palfry, Gareth Wardell, John Inge, Samuel Wells, Olivia Graham, Mark Chapman, Vivienne Faull, Steven Croft, Theo Hobson, Helen King and Charlie Bell.
