Fashion Game Changers traces radical innovations in Western fashion design from the beginning of the 20th century to the present.Challenging the traditional silhouettes of their day, fashion designers such as Madeleine Vionnet and Cristóbal Balenciaga began to liberate the female body from the close-fitting hourglass forms which dominated European and American fashion, instead enveloping bodies in more autonomous garments which often took inspiration from beyond the West. As the century progressed, new generations of avant-garde designers from Rei Kawakubo to Martin Margiela further developed the ideas instigated by their predecessors to defy established notions of femininity in dress, creating space between body and garment. This way, a new relationship between body and dress emerged for the 21st century. With over 200 images and commentaries from an international range of leading fashion curators and historians, this beautifully illustrated book showcases some of the most revolutionary silhouettes and innovative designs of over 100 years of fashion.

Masquerade, Make-up & Ensor transposes Ensor's ideas around the masquerade, (false) coquetry, seduction, deception, the artificial and the ephemeral to today. MoMu (Fashion Museum Antwerp) celebrates the painters of fashion: the craftsmanship and inexhaustible creativity of make-up and hair artists in a book where light, colour, art, fashion and make-up meet. Make-up and beauty have today become a trillion-dollar industry that confronts man with his physical mortality, imagined imperfections and existential fears. But make-up, like paint, is also a form of personal expression, artistic experimentation, joy and freedom. Masquerade, Make-up & Ensor explores how closely make-up is intertwined with many aspects of our humanity.

A captivating exploration of Azzedine Alaïa’s passion for craftsmanship, revealing the techniques, inspirations, and masterpieces that shaped his vision of fashion.A virtuoso couturier, Azzedine Alaïa loved to study closely the techniques of the great masters of the past in a quest for knowledge that never opposed him to them, but incited him to surpass himself.A discerning collector, he focused his efforts on putting together collections that reflected this passion, one that combines the art of cutting, patternmaking and creativity.Of all the couturiers and designers he admired, those whose architectural designs for dresses, jackets and coats most vividly came to life always held his attention. In a family that included Madeleine Vionnet, Jeanne Lanvin, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Charles James, Adrian, Claire McCardell, Madame Grès, Jacques Fath, Christian Dior, Comme des Garçons, Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaïa wrote his own history of fashion, one governed by the sovereignty of lines and the craft of cutting.Other names and other labels, some of which have since been forgotten, equally caught his observant eye. In the clothes he kept of them, a single guiding principle underlay his choices. Whether simple or, on the contrary, elaborated to form a complex harmony, the creations found their way into his collection through their skilled application of techniques.Pattern drawings and tacking stitches that transform the outlines of a dress into celestial fabric form the vocabulary that Alaïa manipulated with such expertise. He also collected them as illustrations of a discipline he liked to situate between the Academy of Sciences and sartorial poetics.
