Now in its third edition, Globalization & Crime provides students with a comprehensive overview of the essential themes and conceptual debates surrounding globalization and global criminology.

It examines established topics such as human trafficking and smuggling, migration and organised crime. But also explores modern issues such as the refugee crisis in Europe, cyber-hacking and enforcement, and the failure of Internet Service Providers to take responsibility for online content. The third edition has been significantly updated with new content and examples, along with modern case studies, such as the political context surrounding the development of ISIS, organ trafficking, and an anti-globalization backlash in the UK and US. It also features two new chapters: ‘Global Ecological Destruction’ – An investigation into the development of environmental criminology, and ‘Towards a Cosmopolitan Criminology?’ – An overview of the possibilities for establishing a global criminology and coverage of the emerging issues to consider for the future.

Ideal reading for undergraduate and postgraduate students of criminology, globalization and sociology.

The Handbook presents a comprehensive overview of the rapidly growing field of border criminology and introduces original research, new theoretical perspectives and methodological innovations. It considers the relationship between research and activism as well as the lived experiences of those subject to border control. International scholars from a range of social science disciplines, including criminology, socio-legal studies, sociology and anthropology critically assess the nature, findings, and implications of the intersections between border control and criminal justice. In response to politically charged debates on immigration and border policing, they dissect the punitive laws and policies and consider alternatives.

The Handbook on Border Criminology is an unmissable read for students and scholars of criminology, socio-legal studies, migration, borders, human rights and public international law. In its global reach, this unique Handbook is also of great benefit to practitioners and policy makers.

Cosmopolitan Justice and its Discontents pursues a reflection upon the institutional orders designed to ensure respect for the rule of law, human rights, and social justice. The majority of literature on cosmopolitanism tends to be oriented in sociology, political science or philosophy, and is largely positive. This book aims to fill the lacuna with respect to critical and legal perspectives in this field. In particular, it highlights the importance of international economic law and its institutions when evaluating the evolution of cosmopolitan norms. In addition, it provides critical and multidisciplinary perspectives on Cosmopolitan Justice and Sovereignty; Institutions, Civil Society and Accountability; and Social Exclusion, Migration, and Global Markets. This book will be of considerable interest to academics and students concerned with international public and private law, international criminal law, international economic law, human rights, migration, criminology, political science, and philosophy.

Western societies are immersed in debates about immigration and illegality. This book examines these processes and outlines how the figure of the "crimmigrant other" has emerged not only as a central object of media and political discourse, but also as a distinct penal subject connecting migration and the logic of criminalization and insecurity. Illegality defines not only a quality of certain acts, but becomes an existential condition, which shapes the daily lives of large groups within the society. Drawing on rich empirical material from national and international contexts, Katja Franko outlines the social production of the crimmigrant other as a multi-layered phenomenon that is deeply rooted in the intricate connections between law, scientific knowledge, bureaucratic practices, politics and popular discourse.
