Historisches Lernen als Rassismuskritik geht von der Prämisse aus, dass vergangene Wirklichkeiten ebenso wie unsere Gegenwart von der Ausgrenzungskategorie race geprägt wurden. Geschichtsunterricht rassismus- und damit herrschaftskritisch zu gestalten, bedeutet für die Herausgeber_innen und Autor_innen dieses Bandes, die Konstruiertheit der sozialen Kategorie race zu erkennen, ihren historischen Wandel zu reflektieren und durch ihre narrative Verflüssigung im Rahmen historischen Erzählens Handlungsoptionen gegen Rassismus in der Gegenwart zu erkennen.Der Band spannt dabei ein weites Feld auf: theoretisch-geschichtsdidaktische und wissensgeschichtliche Überlegungen kommen genauso zum Zuge wie unterrichtspraktische Vorschläge für einen rassimuskritischen Geschichtsunterricht.

Er bietet somit einen einzigartigen Überblick über Interessengebiete und Forschungsfelder der deutschsprachigen Geschichtsdidaktik.Der Band ist Joachim Rohlfes (*1929) gewidmet, der weit über seine Tätigkeit als Professor in Bielefeld hinaus über mehrere Jahrzehnte hinweg die Disziplin geprägt hat. Brennpunkte des Geschichtsunterrichts waren immer wieder Gegenstand seiner zahlreichen Publikationen.
