Der Band dokumentiert die Beiträge der vom 21. bis zum 24. April 2010 in der Prager Villa Lanna veranstalteten Tagung, welche auf die Weiterentwicklung der europäischen Zusammenarbeit bei der Erforschung der mittelalterlichen Pilgerzeichen abzielte. Die Tagung besaß drei inhaltliche Schwerpunkte: Zum ersten wurden die zahlreichen Pilgerzeichenfunde der letzten Jahre im südlichen Ostseeraum von Danzig bis zur Küste von Schleswig und ihr historischer Kontext thematisiert. Zum zweiten wurde der Alpen-Donau-Raum in den Blick genommen, aus dem bisher nur wenige Arbeiten vorlagen und zusammenfassende Untersuchungen zur Pilgerzeichenüberlieferung ganz fehlten. Den dritten Fokus bildete die Sammlung von etwa 500 französischen Pilgerzeichen, die im Jahre 1894 vom Prager Kunstgewerbemuseum erworben wurde und die seit 2010 erstmals eine umfassende wissenschaftliche Bearbeitung erfuhr.
