Die vierte Ausgabe von Tierstudien ist dem Thema Metamorphose gewidmet. Gegenstand der Analysen sind künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Darstellungen von Metamorphosen sowie deren historische Veränderungen von der antiken Mythologie über frühmittelalterliche Hagiographie bis zum Posthumanismus Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts, wobei ein Schwerpunkt auf literarischen Darstellungen liegt. Zudem werden Verwandlungen betrachtet, welche die Produzent*innen und Rezipient*innen der jeweiligen Metamorphosen selbst durchlaufen. Die untersuchten Verwandlungen beziehen Flora, Fauna und menschliche Tiere ein. Ovid, Maria Sybilla Merian, Kafka, Deleuze und Guattari spielen dabei wiederholt eine Rolle und erfahren damit ebenfalls Metamorphosen.Die Autor*innen nehmen z. B. Metamorphosen bei Korallen, Bären, Menschen, Insekten, Fischen oder Schmetterlingen in den Blick. Sie fragen u. a. nach Metamorphosen der Stimme und des Blicks oder untersuchen die Ästhetik der Metamorphose in naturhistorischen Tierdarstellungen der Frühen Neuzeit sowie Korallenfragmente in Kunstkammern des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Schließlich werden das Konzept des Tier-Werdens und das Prinzip der Assemblage sowie die Funktion von Metamorphosen für Gesellschaftsdarstellung, -kritik und -utopie betrachtet.In den künstlerischen Beiträgen werden mediale Umgestaltungen von Tierrepräsentationen im Medium der Collage präsentiert und die skulpturale Metamorphose eines Ledersofas zurück in ein Kalb vorgeführt.
