This book analyses and discusses recent reconfigurations in Latin America’s social movements, as innovative forms of political experimentation emerge to counter new threats.Latin America has had a strong presence of social movements throughout its modern history, in the last thirty years, profound societal changes such as globalization, digitalization, and individualization have given rise to new subjects and modalities of collective action which contest neoliberalism. This book demonstrates the ways in which socio-environmental challenges across the continent are generating a plurality of social, community, territorial, ecological, ethnic, racial, and eco-feminist movements, with de-colonial and cosmopolitan perspectives. Across the Americas, Indigenous and Afro-descendent peoples have demanded autonomy, self-determination, and self-governance. By exerting their collective rights, they have engaged with domestic and international standards on the rights of Indigenous Peoples, implemented full-fledged mechanisms for autonomous governance, and promoted political and constitutional reform aimed at expanding understandings of multicultural citizenship and the plurinational state. Desde el comienzo de su historia, la filosofía ha debido enfrentarse al problema del sufrimiento humano. El cristianismo, por su parte, plantea enormes desafíos al pensamiento, entre los que destaca precisamente el problema del sufrimiento del justo, manifestado de manera ejemplar en la muerte de Cristo en la cruz: ¿cómo entender la idea de que el Dios Todopoderoso se haga hombre y asuma la condición humana finita hasta el extremo de ser condenado a muerte como un delincuente? En el presente libro se trata el problema del sufrimiento desde una doble perspectiva. Por una parte, se aborda de manera amplia la pregunta por la condición humana en el pensamiento de Kant, quien, a su vez, entra en diálogo con la tradición cristiana, especialmente con Lutero; por otra, se lleva a cabo un análisis detallado de los textos acerca de la cruz de Cristo de tres grandes filósofos y de un escritor. A pesar de que se trata de líneas de pensamiento completamente diferentes entre sí, que van desde el racionalismo de Kant al pensamiento especulativo de Hegel, y del rechazo violento de Nietzsche a la fe de Dostoyevski, ellas confluyen, sin embargo, en el intento de comprender el misterio del Dios crucificado.

Esta publicación reúne textos inéditos de Jorge Eduardo Rivera, uno de los filósofos más influyentes del pensamiento chileno contemporáneo. Los capítulos exploran cuales han sido las secuelas de las apuestas programáticas de justicia transicional, mas allá de los límites del derecho y la institucionalidad, para reconocer los cambios producidos en los lenguajes, las practicas, los sentidos, las estrategias, los repertorios políticos y la vida de la gente que, con gran capacidad creativa y de resistencia, anhela superar el pasado violento y conseguir paz en sus territorios.
