I denna antologi fokuseras och diskuteras barnkonventionen som rättsligt och praktiskt verktyg utifrån olika forskningsområden och praktiska verksamheter. Bokens författare är forskare tillhörande olika vetenskapliga discipliner, varmed barnkonventionens praktiska innebörd relateras till forskning inom ämnena offentlig rätt, civilrätt, socialt arbete, rättssociologi, folkhälsovetenskap, socialmedicin och hälsopolitik, svenska som andraspråk, semiotik, utvecklingspsykologi och statsvetenskap. Vidare medverkar författare från Barn- och utbildningsförvaltningen i Simrishamn och Barnfonden med konkreta exempel på barnrättsarbete i praktiken.I antologin diskuteras barnkonventionen som normförändrande verktyg såväl som praktiskt redskap i Sverige och internationellt, men också utifrån kritiska perspektiv där begränsningar, motsättningar och dilemman kan finnas i praktiken. Tanken är att boken genom sin tvärvetenskapliga ansats och med utgångspunkt i forskning ska bidra till vidare reflektion och kunskap kring barnkonventionens betydelse och funktion för professionella aktörer och för barns levnadsvillkor. Perspektiv på barnkonventionen riktar sig till studenter, forskare och praktiker inom de olika ämnes- och verksamhetsområdena.

Children's participation in child protection has become a burgeoning field of interest for scholars and practitioners in the field of social work, and yet there is no edited volume that weaves together recent international contributions on the topic. This volume fills that gap, beginning with the assumption that children can and should have agency in decisions that affect their lives. Child protection is understood as protection from violence in the family and from violence in wider society. Children and youth may encounter public child protection systems in several instances: during child protection investigations, when children receive support services, during decisions about children's removals from home, and when children are in foster, kin, or residential care. Children may experience systemic violence as a lack of personal and economic security, a lack of access to education, and other factors.This book features pathways to children and young people's collective participation in changing child protection policies and services in multiple countries through examples of participatory research and practices promoting children and young people's participation in child protection. It highlights the change actions and voices of empowered and marginalized children and youth in various international contexts. The global examples featured in this volume can serve as an inspiration for children and youth, children's rights activists, child protection practitioners, students, scholars, and public policymakers to initiate, design, and implement participatory child protection policies and practices.

This open access volume analyses the conditions needed for greater participation of children in social change and development, focusing on Nordic countries. With the idea that citizens of future societies are best placed to envisage their ideal future, and that societies must receive children's trust and participation, the volume looks at existing social, legal, and economic norms, and discusses the various challenges at the institutional and societal levels in involving children. The contributions consider the perspective of children and of other actors in the process. The editors and authors begin with the premise that the lack of a functioning collaboration between children as actors and institutional actors who are supposed to work with/for children can lead to serious consequences, such as a lack of trust in society's representatives and in the legitimacy of legislation. The volume draws empirical evidence and discussion points from cases of children’s participation in family litigation, school regulations and related areas in various Nordic countries. It therefore shows the path to the rest of the world towards a more equitable and just future involving children’s active participation in their and society’s future.
