Metal-dielectric interfaces are ubiquitous in modern electronics. As advanced gigascale electronic devices continue to shrink, the stability of these interfaces is becoming an increasingly important issue that has a profound impact on the operational reliability of these devices. In this book, the authors present the basic science underlying the thermal and electrical stability of metal-dielectric interfaces and its relationship to the operation of advanced interconnect systems in gigascale electronics. Interface phenomena, including chemical reactions between metals and dielectrics, metallic-atom diffusion, and ion drift, are discussed based on fundamental physical and chemical principles. Schematic diagrams are provided throughout the book to illustrate interface phenomena and the principles that govern them.
Metal-Dielectric Interfaces in Gigascale Electronics provides a unifying approach to the diverse and sometimes contradictory test results that are reported in the literature on metal-dielectric interfaces. The goal is to provide readers with a clear account of the relationship between interface science and its applications in interconnect structures. The material presented here will also be of interest to those engaged in field-effect transistor and memristor device research, as well as university researchers and industrial scientists working in the areas of electronic materials processing, semiconductor manufacturing, memory chips, and IC design.Metal-Dielectric Interfaces in Gigascale Electronics

Thermoelectric materials have received a great deal of attention in energy-harvesting and cooling applications, primarily due to their intrinsic low cost, energy efficient and eco-friendly nature. The past decade has witnessed heretofore-unseen advances in organic-based thermoelectric materials and devices. This title summarises the significant progress that has been made in the molecular design, physical characterization, and performance optimization of organic thermoelectric materials, focusing on effective routes to minimize thermal conductivity and maximize power factor. Featuring a series of state-of-the-art strategies for enhancing the thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT) of organic thermoelectricity, and highlighting cutting-edge concepts to promote the performance of organic thermoelectricity, chapters will strengthen the exploration of new high-ZT thermoelectric materials and their potential applications. With contributions from leading worldwide authors, Organic Thermoelectric Materials will appeal to graduate students as well as academic and industrial researchers across chemistry, materials science, physics and engineering interested in the materials and their applications.

This book highlights the advances in the technology , instrumentation , method developments , and applications of Accelerator Mass Spectrometry ( AMS ). It systematically introduces the principles and structure of AMS . The authors put emphasis on the new techniques and measurement methods of AMS , with detailed descriptions of its applications in the fields of nuclear science , archaeology , geoscience , biomedicine , and environmental science . The advances made by global researchers are mainly in three directions: (1) the miniaturization of AMS instruments; (2) inventions based on new technology and new theories , such as superionization AMS and MS; (3) new methods and applications , including measurements of noble gases 85Kr,133Xe, and 39Ar using superionization AMS , dating of human history with 41Ca, increasing 14C dating from 40 ky to more than 60 ky , and measurements with such important dating nuclides as 40K-40Ca-40Ar,87Ru-87Sr, and 187Re-187Os in geology and archeology. The book is not only a good reference for technicians of MS and accelerators but also a helpful information source on how to use AMS for researchers and graduate students in their research and work in geology, archeology, environmental science, nuclear science, materials science , and biomedicine.
