This open access book sheds light on collective practices of remembering, imagining and anticipating in relation to recent acts of urban terrorism in Europe. Analysing a range of personal and collective responses to urban terrorism in contemporary Europe, this book shows that current debates on this issue are shaped by multiple co-existing and intersecting memories of political violence in the past. Moreover, despite public declarations of unity and solidarity, collective memories of urban terror in contemporary Europe are far from consensual - memory can be both a catalyst for and an impediment to social and political change. Drawing on case studies from a range of European countries and creative responses by survivors, artists, and poets, this interdisciplinary volume introduces readers to key methods (e.g. discourse analysis and (auto-)ethnography) and concepts (e.g. Lieux de Mémoire and ‘grassroots memorials’) for the study of the memoralization of terror attacks.

La mañana del 27 de septiembre de 1975 la dictadura franquista llevó a cabo sus cinco últimas ejecuciones y, de hecho, las últimas de la historia de España. En Madrid fueron fusilados tres miembros del FRAP: José Humberto Baena, José Luis Sánchez Bravo y Ramón García Sanz. En Burgos y Barcelona, dos integrantes de ETA político-militar: Ángel Otaegi Etxeberria y Juan Paredes Manotas (Txiki). Cuatro consejos de guerra los habían condenado a muerte por su participación en los asesinatos de los agentes de la Policía Armada Lucio Rodríguez Martín y Ovidio Díaz López, y de los guardias civiles Gregorio Posada Zurrón y Antonio Pose Rodríguez. El Gobierno del presidente Carlos Arias Navarro, al contrario que su predecesor en otras ocasiones, había confirmado las penas. En la presente obra se analiza la interrelación entre las dos formas de violencia política que marcaron a fuego el convulso ocaso del régimen. Por una parte, el terrorismo de ETA, el FRAP, los GRAPO y otras siglas, que causaron 68 víctimas mortales y centenares de heridos entre 1968 y 1975. Por otra, la represión franquista, cuyo punto culminante se alcanzó con las ejecuciones de 1974 y 1975. Utilizando fuentes inéditas, historiadores, juristas y periodistas estudian distintos aspectos de aquella dinámica: el contexto histórico, la crisis terminal de la dictadura, la actividad de la oposición antifranquista, la tercera oleada internacional de terrorismo, la respuesta legislativa de los países europeos más afectados, el papel de Francia como "santuario" de ETA, los atentados, la estrategia de acción-represión-acción, el estado de excepción, los procesos judiciales, los fusilamientos, el desamparo de las víctimas del terrorismo, la memoria de los unos, el olvido de los otros y el reflejo de todos estos acontecimientos en el cine.
