Environmental Awareness and Governance: Ecolinguistic and Discourse Perspectives is a comprehensive exploration that delves into the intricate relationship between language, discourse, and environmental issues. This book begins by examining the role of environmental governance in Moroccan political parties’ electoral programs, followed by an analysis of how Moroccan online media communicates water stress as a risk issue. It also provides an ecolinguistic analysis of a computer-animated Netflix film, “The Sea Beast”, and discusses the impact of climate change on Moroccan agriculture, particularly focusing on the “Generation Green” strategy. The editors and contributors explore the role of translation in the environmental movement and discusses the shift from the Anthropocene to the Capitalocene in the context of global climate change. They also provide a critical discourse analysis of the environmental discourse of the COP27, highlighting the North-South divide. The latter part of this book focuses on environmental literacy and awareness among students and also examines the environmental awareness of Moroccan university students and its impact on their environmental practices. The book further discusses the role of visual language in environmental representation, using Moroccan cinema as a case study. It explores the intersection of language, translation, and posthumanism, focusing on cross-species interaction in Margaret Atwood’s trilogy. This book concludes with an ecocritical interpretation of solastalgia in Mohsin Hamid’s “Exit West” and a generic, ecocritical reading of climate change in Kim Stanley Robinson’s Science in the Capital Trilogy. Each chapter provides a unique perspective on environmental issues, making it a comprehensive resource for anyone interested in environmental studies.

This edited volume investigates multiple perspectives of environmental meaning-making among children by evaluating preschool children’s drawings on the environment. It critically traces the formation of early attitudes towards the environment before children’s exposure to formal environmental education. Similarities and differences are explored among preschool children's drawings across diverse cultural and geographic backgrounds. Over five sections covering Morocco, Indonesia, Nigeria, Iraq, and Argentina, each one examines the factors affecting children's environmental drawings, such as age, gender, and geography.Using different theoretical frameworks, the chapters are written by researchers of environmental discourse and ecolinguistics with a background knowledge in environmental studies from a social science perspective. This book is of interest to researchers interested in ecolinguistics and socio-semiotics fields of study. This seminal book also paves the way for further research on preschool environmental education.

Apocalypse in Media, Literature and Linguistics: Narratives of Despair and Hope argues that apocalyptic stories are not merely genres or headlines; they are cultural technologies that construct environmental crises and channel public response. The volume shows how language and narrative—metaphors, frames, and plotlines—shape ecological identity, moral urgency, and policy choices across fiction, film, journalism, and community activism. Contributors trace how alarmist framings can heighten attention yet also induce paralysis or denial, and how hopeful, justice-oriented discourse can motivate stewardship and collective action. Case studies range from McCarthy’s The Road and Atwood’s climate fiction to Swahili-language media in Kenya, Brazilian news rhetoric, cinematic reception of The Day After Tomorrow, necropolitics in the Niger Delta, and critiques of anti-apocalyptic techno-optimism. Together, the chapters advance a clear claim: apocalyptic narratives do political work, distributing fear, responsibility, and possibility. The book offers practical analytic tools—drawn from ecolinguistics, critical discourse analysis, cultural studies, and media analysis—for diagnosing destructive framings and designing alternatives that inform without fatalism. It is a timely resource for scholars, educators, journalists, and advocates seeking language that moves audiences from dread to durable, justice-centered action.
