This book presents an updated state-of-the-art for managed aquifer recharge (MAR) for MENA regions. MENA regions are home to 6% of the world's population but only possess 1.4% of its water resources with almost absolute scarcity. Groundwater is the primary source of water in 54% of MENA countries. Therefore, the MENA regions seek sustainable management solutions amid its arid climate and rising demands from urbanization and agriculture. MAR aims to help sustain groundwater resources. This book explores MAR as a strategic approach to reducing water security by enhancing groundwater supplies. Utilizing techniques such as soil aquifer recharge, aquifer storage and recovery, rainfall harvesting, and riverbank filtration. The presented case studies offer deep insights into MAR methods, their implementation, and MAR technologies. The beneficiaries of the book include postgraduate students, academics, policymakers, and practitioners in water resources.

This book sheds new light on the urgent need for effective water remediation technologies in the face of growing environmental challenges and water scarcity. It offers a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in water treatment, focusing on strategies to address contamination, restore water quality, and contribute to the World Sustainability Agenda 2030. The book covers various aspects of water pollution, focusing on both organic and metal pollutants and their far-reaching environmental impacts. It presents sustainable applications and innovative remediation strategies, including bioremediation, phytoremediation, biosorbents, and adsorption techniques. Special emphasis is placed on nanomaterials, such as Schiff base metal complexes and green algae-based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), which have shown promise in removing pollutants. Furthermore, advanced water treatment methods, such as photocatalytic degradation, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), and membrane filtration, are explored in depth. A key feature of this volume is the presentation of real-world case studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of various water remediation technologies. It also examines sustainable, nature-based solutions, like using water lettuce for phytoremediation, and their potential for large-scale application. The integration of hybrid technologies and real-time water quality monitoring is also discussed to provide a holistic understanding of modern water management challenges.By bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications, this book is an invaluable resource for environmental scientists, engineers, policymakers, and students. It not only highlights the latest scientific breakthroughs but also explores regulatory frameworks, policy considerations, and successful water remediation projects worldwide. With its interdisciplinary approach and focus on innovative, sustainable solutions, this volume serves as an essential reference for those committed to ensuring clean, safe, and sustainable water resources for generations to come.
Double Constraint Inversion Methodology
Equations and Applications in Forward and Inverse Modeling of Groundwater Flow

This book describes a novel physics-based approach to inverse modeling that makes use of the properties of the equations governing the physics of the processes under consideration. It focuses on the inverse problems occurring in hydrogeology, but the approach is also applicable to similar inverse problems in various other fields, such as petroleum-reservoir engineering, geophysical and medical imaging, weather forecasting, and flood prediction. This approach takes into consideration the physics – for instance, the boundary conditions required to obtain a well-posed mathematical problem – to help avoid errors in model building and therefore enhance the reliability of the results. In addition, this method requires less computation time and less computer memory. The theory is presented in a comprehensive, not overly mathematical, way, with three practice-oriented hydrogeological case studies and a comparison with the conventional approach illustrating the power of the method.Forward and Inverse Modeling of Groundwater Flow is of use to researchers and graduate students in the fields of hydrology, as well as to professional hydrologists within industry. It also appeals to geophysicists and those working in or studying petroleum reservoir modeling and basin modeling.
