Multidisciplinary examination of the public sphere in "traditional" Muslim society.Challenging conventional assumptions, the contributors to this interdisciplinary volume argue that premodern Muslim societies had diverse and changing varieties of public spheres, constructed according to premises different from those of Western societies.
