Explore foundational and advanced topics in smart electric power in the context of smart citiesIn Smart Electric Power: Integrating Power with Information for Smarter Cities, a distinguished trio of researchers delivers a comprehensive framework of smart electric power concepts including aspects of modeling, information processing, simulation, and computation efficiency as applied to power load morphing, management, and power system reliability. The book explores the integration of power systems and information networks using machine intelligence to assist in reliable, continuous, optimal, and efficient power system operation.Functioning as both an introductory textbook and reference handbook, Smart Electric Power provides readers with robust exposure to dynamic, information-driven control methods coupled with machine learning methodologies that facilitate the reliable and automated delivery and management of electricity.Readers will also benefit from the inclusion of: Thorough introductions to smart electric power for smart cities, electrical power systems, and power markets and economicsComprehensive explorations of information networks and digital connectivity, machine intelligence for data processing, and the role of anticipation in implementing smart powerPractical discussions of demand response and load shaping using anticipation, power system stability via information and anticipation, data-driven self-healing power systems, and cybersecurity in smart power networksIn-depth examinations of smart power in modern cities and intelligent city transportation, the Gridlab-D software, and the elements of thermodynamicsPerfect for students and scholars studying smart electrical power systems, Smart Electric Power: Integrating Power with Information for Smarter Cities will also earn a place in the libraries of electrical, power, and computer engineers, computer scientists, and economists specializing in power and utilities markets.

This book includes extended versions of selected research works that were presented at the 14th International Conference on Information, Intelligence, Systems, and Applications (IISA2023), Volos, Greece, 10–12 July 2024 (https://www.easyacademia.org/iisa2023) along with additional relevant papers by invited authors. Information is widely available and accessible but frequently leads to information overload and overexposure and the effort for coding, storing, hiding, securing, transmitting, and retrieving it may be excessive. Intelligence, inspired by biological and other paradigms, is required to manage information and extract knowledge from it. Information and multimedia systems, with an increasing level of intelligence, are being developed that incorporate these advances. As a result, new technologies, protocols, and novel applications are emerging. In turn, the novel applications lead to the collection of new information, and the “Information à Intelligence à Systems à Applications” circle is repeated at ever higher levels. These works cover a broad spectrum of topics from both novelties in theory and advanced methodologies as well as novel applications in energy, agriculture, medicine, forensics, healthcare, education, tourism, inspection, traffic, and software engineering.Targeted towards academicians, researchers, practitioners, and students in computer science and artificial intelligence, this work is also accessible to individuals from other disciplines interested in the cutting-edge developments of information, intelligence, systems, and applications. An extensive list of bibliographic references at the end of each chapter guides the readers to probe deeper into the application areas of interest to them.

This book is dedicated to the dreamers, their dreams, and their perseverance in research work. This volume brings together the selected and peer–reviewed contributions of the p- ticipants at the COST 2102 International Conference on Verbal and Nonverbal F- tures of Human–Human and Human–Machine Interaction, held in Patras, Greece, October 29–31, 2007, hosted by the 19th IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (ICTAI 2008). The conference was sponsored by COST (European Cooperation in the Field of Scientific and Technical Research, www.cost.esf.org ) in the domain of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for disseminating the advances of the - search activity developed within COST Action 2102: “Cross-Modal Analysis of V- bal and Nonverbal Communication”(www.cost2102.eu). COST Action 2102 is a network of about 60 European and 6 overseas laboratories whose aim is to develop “an advanced acoustical, perceptual and psychological analysis of verbal and non-verbal communication signals originating in spontaneous face-to-face interaction, in order to identify algorithms and automatic procedures capable of identifying the human emotional states. Particular care is devoted to the recognition of emotional states, gestures, speech and facial expressions, in antici- tion of the implementation of intelligent avatars and interactive dialogue systems that could be exploited to improve user access to future telecommunication services”(see COST 2102 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) www.cost2102.eu).
