Entrepreneurship has come a long way as an academic field, just as it has in our modern economy and society. Entrepreneurship provides a much needed retrospective view of academic work in the area.Scholars in the field approach entrepreneurship from a variety of disciplines and often exhibit little agreement when attempting to define the term itself. To many, however, 'entrepreneurship' is about innovation and creativity - hardly the province of any one discipline. Instead, the field embraces a disparate set of topics and domains that need not have much in common. This collection highlights the importance of studying multiple contextual forces, including research that derives from economics, history, sociology, psychology and from different business disciplinary bases, such as marketing, finance and strategy. The overall focus is on 'entrepreneurial' activity, rather than specifically small business (or family business), and favours research articles over those that deal purely with practice. The articles selected are useful and influential, and demonstrate the remarkable breadth of research questions, many of which are far from settled. The pieces included are often not readily available to libraries and will provide researchers with a unique source on which to build their own work.A thorough index enables the reader to follow a particular theme through the four volumes, while the new introductions by the editor also provide suggestions for further reading on particular topics.

This book discusses the emerging phenomenon of digital social entrepreneurship, which relies on the use and embracement of new technologies, and investigates the social implications and value for people, profit, and planet. The authors examine the use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence, metaverse, and augmented reality to understand the evolution of social entrepreneurialism, considering three layers: micro, meso, and macro. The micro layer analyses digital social entrepreneurs’ attitude in generating new digital social innovation for disadvantaged people; the meso layer explores the combination of digital and social initiatives in an entrepreneurial journey to improve inclusiveness and sustainability; and the macro layer investigates the impact of exogenous events on Digital Social Entrepreneurship (DSE) to scaling such ventures, also offering an overview of disadvantaged entrepreneurs.Offering new insights, research, and practical guidance, this book will appeal in particular to scholars and post graduate students of entrepreneurship and small business management, organisational studies, technology, and innovation management.

Cultural Values and Entrepreneurship aims to broaden and deepen our understanding of which elements of ‘culture’ influence, or are influenced by, entrepreneurial activity. Differences in entrepreneurial activity among countries, and regions within those countries, are persistent and cannot be fully explained by institutional and economic variables. A substantial number of these differences have been attributed to culture, and it is clear that some socio-cultural practices, values and norms are more conducive to driving or inhibiting entrepreneurial intentions and activity. However, we need to dig deeper into ‘how’ and ‘why’ cultural practices, and underlying values and norms, matter in entrepreneurial action, in order to more fully understand the complexities of the processes, without making cross-cultural or cross-national generalisations. Unique cultural, national, and institutional contexts present different practices in terms of opportunities and challenges for driving entrepreneurial action. The contributions in this book consider some of the many different facets of the culture-entrepreneurship relationship, and offer valuable insights to our understanding of the field. This book was originally published as a special issue of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development.
