Robert Lebel, French art critic and collector, was instrumental in rendering Marcel Duchamp s often hermetic life, art, and ideas accessible to a wider public across Europe and the United States, principally with his 1959 publication "Sur Marcel Duchamp," the first monograph and catalogue raisonne devoted to the artist. Duchamp was a willing partner in the book s creation. In fact, his active participation in both its conception and layout was so substantial that the book is considered part of the artist s oeuvre. But the project took six years to complete. The trials, tribulations, quarrels, and machinations that plagued the production, publication, and publicity of "Sur Marcel Duchamp" are the focus of this correspondence between two lifelong friends. A personal, playful tribute to the Lalannes featuring their signature animal-inspired works as well as some rare collaborative piecesIn 1964, Claude (1925–2019) and François-Xavier Lalanne (1927–2008) held their first joint solo exhibition, titled Zoophites: an obsolete French term for invertebrate animals that resemble plants. This would turn out to be a fitting title for their oeuvre, chiefly composed of whimsical renditions of sheep, monkeys, rabbits, birds and more. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of this show, Kasmin presents a revitalized exhibition of the Lalannes’ work under the same title. The zoomorphic tables, chairs, sculptures and more are all drawn entirely from the collection of the Lalannes’ eldest daughter, Caroline Hamisky Lalanne. The catalog features over 100 color images in addition to archival photographs. Zoophites is also unique in that it documents some rare collaborative sculptures by the artist couple, who shared a home and studio but rarely worked together.

Marcel Duchamp: one of his themes was the boundary between works of art and everyday objects, and with it, he set the art world in an uproar. Surely one of his most brilliant strokes of genius was the Fountain, a urinal he put on display. There are, of course, many more works that bear his signature, and the Duchamp Collection in Schwerin has ninety-two of them. Founded in 2009, the research centre has succeeded in establishing an interdisciplinary, globally connected network of researchers in Schwerin. Under the title Marcel Duchamp: Inventing the Presence, individual as well as groups of artworks from the Schwerin collection are examined from philosophical, art historical, and literary perspectives in volume five of the series Poiesis.

Exploring duplicates with Duchamp through the contents of his “museum box”In all his work, French visionary Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968)—Dadaist, Surrealist and progenitor of conceptual art—challenged the traditional dichotomy between original and copy. By replicating his own creations, with variable dimensions and in limited editions, Duchamp radically redefined what constitutes an artwork and, by extension, the identity of the artist. This volume places at its center the Boite en valise No. 1 in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Tellingly signed “From or by Marcel Duchamp or Rrose Selavy,” the portable gallery contains 69 small-scale copies and color reproductions and photographs of the artist’s principal works with additions in pencil, watercolor and ink. The concepts of double, original, copy and replica are discussed and analyzed through numerous works from some of the world’s most important museums and several private collections.
