Das interne Rechnungswesen liefert der Unternehmensleitung eine unverzichtbare Informationsbasis für die Unternehmensführung. Weil die Einnahmen und Ausgaben eines Unternehmens anders untergliedert sind als es für die Unternehmensführung nötig ist, müssen sie in die jeweils interessierenden Rechnungsgrößen umgerechnet werden.
