Fokus för den här ämnesdidaktiska studien är innehållet i EU-undervisning på högstadiet.Val av ämnesinnehåll har betydelse för hur ett kunskapsområde framställs och vilken kunskap elever utvecklar om kunskapsområdet. Innehåll kan vara olika väl utformat för att utveckla kompetenser för politiskt deltagande. Hur ser detta ut i högstadiets EU-undervisning? Studien undersöker om det är politikens regler och institutioner (polity), politikens mål och innehåll (policy) eller den politiska processen med samarbete och opinionsbildning (politics) som dominerar? Vidare diskuteras i vilken utsträckning politiken framstår som en angelägenhet för medborgarna (ett inrikespolitiskt perspektiv kontra ett utrikespolitiskt perspektiv). I studien undersöks också i vilken utsträckning EU-undervisning integreras med andra kunskapsområden och om undervisningen sker i samband med särskilda händelser, som till exempel val.Undervisning om svensk politik nationell nivå fungerar i studien som en referenspunkt mot vilken EU-undervisningen jämförs. Resultatet, som bygger på lärarintervjuer, visar att EU-undervisningen skiljer sig markant från undervisningen om politik på nationell nivå. En slutsats är att EU-undervisning är mindre väl utformad för politiskt deltagande än vad undervisning om nationell politik är.
