Nicht nur die anhaltenden wirtschaftlichen Krisen verschaffen der traditionsreichen Sozioökonomie neue Aufmerksamkeit. Als integratives, meta-disziplinäres Paradigma verspricht sie ein besseres Verständnis wirtschaftlicher Phänomene und Zusammenhänge als monodisziplinäre Zugänge. Das Buch bietet erstmals einen Überblick über den aktuellen Stand der Sozioökonomie, ihr Selbstverständnis, ihre Geschichte, ihre Theoriestränge und Methodologie sowie ihre Forschungsfelder.

Der Themenband beschäftigt sich mit der Bedeutung des Sozialen und des Historischen für sozioökonomische Bildung in Schulen und Hochschulen in Deutschland und Österreich. In den Beiträgen werden fachwissenschaftliche Begründungslinien und fachdidaktische Konzepte für die systematische Integration von historischen und gesellschaftlichen Perspektiven in Bildungsgänge der sozialwissenschaftlichen Domäne entwickelt. Sie greifen damit aktuelle fachwissenschaftliche Debatten über die Relevanz von Geschichte und Gesellschaft für ein angemessenes Verständnis von Wirtschaft auf.

Historizität und Sozialität sind zentrale Konzepte für die sozioökonomische Bildung, weil ökonomische Institutionen, Strukturen und Prozesse ebenso historisch bedingt und gesellschaftlich eingebettet sind, wie die Begriffe, Theorien und Verfahren, mit denen sie in Wissenschaft, Bildung und Öffentlichkeit erschlossen und verhandelt werden, und die Politiken, mit denen sie gestaltet werden. Die Autorinnen und Autoren zeigen, wie man diese grundlegenden Zusammenhänge theoretisch, konzeptionell und praktisch in der sozioökonomischen Bildung aufgreifen kann.

Das zu Beginn der Corona-Krise heraufbeschworene „neue Normal“ wird von Krisen geprägt sein. Schon früher traten miteinander verwobene Krisen wie die Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise 2007 ff., die Staatsschulden- und Eurokrise 2010, Armutskrisen oder die Krisen der liberalen Demokratie, etwa durch den Rechtspopulismus, zutage. Die Pandemie ist allgegenwärtig, das Klima bildet den Inbegriff einer Dauerkrise, die weitere Krisen evozieren wird. Die Omnipräsenz von Krisen fordert die Gesellschaft heraus.

The interconnections of economy, society and politics so obviously determine socio-economic and political structures and problem situations, current ways of thinking and acting as well as the collective perception of solution options that their still low attention in university teaching and school education is surprising. Phenomena such as pandemics, climate change, migration or authoritarianism make the close, complex and contradictory connections between economy, society and politics tangible. Against this background, socioeconomic research, teaching and education are urgently needed.
