This biblical interpretation textbook provides an accessible introduction to the latest approaches in evangelical hermeneutics. Having many years' experience teaching hermeneutics to undergraduates, Robbie Castleman explains complex themes in an engaging way. She addresses all the current schools of thought in contemporary evangelical hermeneutics and incorporates recent important trends in biblical interpretation. This book helps students recognize the living Word as they read and study Scripture as an act of being engaged by the triune God of grace who breathed and still breathes "the word of the Lord."

What is the right way to worship?Right worship does not require a return to the identical forms found in the early church or later in Rome or after that in Westminster. What it calls for is a faithful response today to the God of our salvation in light of those biblically ordered and historically informed patterns. In this study Robbie Castleman uncovers the fundamental shape of worship. What she unearths is a shape that is outlined in Scripture, enacted in Israel, refocused in the New Testament community, regulated and guarded by the Apostolic fathers, and recovered in the Reformation. It is a worship that can and does still shape the liturgy of many congregations today.

The tension between reading Scripture as primarily a historically situated text on one hand and binding canon addressed to a community of faith on the other constitutes a crucial issue for biblical interpretation. Considering the ways the disciplines of Biblical Studies, Biblical Theology, Patristics, and Systematic Theology approach Scripture and biblical interpretation, the "e;Biblical Theology, Hermeneutics, and Theological Disciplines"e; study group, within the Institute of Biblical Research, established a four-year project aimed at clarifying the relationships between these diverse lines of inquiry into scriptural interpretation found in each of these disciplines. The goal of this project was to foster a sustained discussion where exploratory papers might be proposed, composed, and rewritten for final form using a collaborative process. This research project, and the present volume resulting from it, offers valuable insights into the integration of Biblical Studies and Theology as subdisciplines within the academy. The essays collected here fall naturally into the following sections: Exegetical Explorations, Reception-Historical Explorations, and finally Theological-Practical Explorations.
