The book advocates acceptance of the diversity of voices, while suggesting ways to probe the correspondences, interrelationships, and mutual benefits of that diversity. The selections cover a great variety of cultural facets. For example, the readings in “Work,” the subject of Chapter 5, lead students to consider related subjects such as affirmative action, immigration, cultural displacement, family narratives, and definitions of success. Throughout the text, students are encouraged to draw connections between and among readings through “Correspondence” questions that accompany each selection, thus developing their critical thinking skills.

General Equilibrium, Growth, and Trade, Volume II: The Legacy of Lionel McKenzie presents the impact of Lionel McKenzie''s contributions on modern economics. This book discusses McKenzie''s researches that are relevant in applied economic fields, including general equilibrium, optimal growth, and international trade. Organized into three parts encompassing 24 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the existence of competitive equilibrium in an economy with a finite number of agents and commodities. This text then presents two analyses that are basically responses to criticism of the development of real indeterminacy. Other chapters consider McKenzie''s assumption of irreducibility, which plays a significant role in showing how compensated equilibria will be uncompensated equilibria because agents have cheaper net trade vectors in their feasible sets. Der vorliegende Band versammelt die Biographien der drei vom NS-Regime eingesetzten Kölner Regierungspräsidenten Rudolf zur Bonsen (1933-34), Rudolf Diels (1934-36) und Eggert Reeder (1936-45). Ihre einzelnen Stationen in der preußischen Verwaltung bis hin zum Amt eines Regierungspräsidenten werden geschildert, dabei insbesondere ihr jeweiliger übergang aus der Weimarer Republik in das NS-Regime. über das Biographische hinaus werden Verknüpfungen mit strukturellen Entwicklungen der NS-Diktatur aufgezeigt, so deren Verhältnis zur katholischen Kirche, der Aufbau eines Verfolgungsapparats oder die deutsche Besatzungsverwaltung im Zweiten Weltkrieg. So war Eggert Reeder von 1940-44 zugleich Militärverwaltungschef in Belgien. In Entnazifizierungsverfahren wurden alle drei als "entlastet" eingestuft, im aktiven Dienst war danach jedoch keiner von ihnen mehr tätig. Hier liegt nun die erste zusammenhängende umfassende Darstellung von Leben, Agieren und individuellem Versagen der drei Kölner Regierungspräsidenten im Nationalsozialismus vor.
