In this era of heterogeneous and distributed data sources, ranging from semistructured documents to knowledge about coordination processes or workflows, logic provides a rich set of tools and techniques with which to address the questions of how to represent, query and reason about complex data.This book provides a state-of-the-art overview of research on the application of logic-based methods to information systems, covering highly topical and emerging fields: XML programming and querying, intelligent agents, workflow modeling and verification, data integration, temporal and dynamic information, data mining, authorization, and security. This volume presents the papers contributed to ?EON 2008, the 9th Inter- tional Conference on Deontic Logic in Computer Science, held in Luxembourg, July 16–18, 2008. This biennial conference series is designed to promote int- national cooperation amongst scholars who are interested in deontic logic and its use in computer science. The scope of the conference is interdisciplinary, and includes research that links the formal-logical study of normative concepts and normative systems with computer science, arti?cial intelligence, philosophy, - ganization theory, and law. The ?EON website, http://www.deonticlogic.org, contains links to previous conferences and their papers. This history reveals a vibrant interdisciplinary research program. Papers for these conferences might address such general themes as the - velopment of formal systems of deontic logic and related areas of logic, such as logics of action and agency, or the formal analysis of all sorts of normative concepts, such as the notions of rule, role, regulation, authority, power, rights, responsibility, etc., or the formal representation of legal knowledge. They might also be concerned with applications, such as the formal speci?cation of n- mative multiagent systems, the speci?cation of systems for the management of bureaucratic processes in public or private administration, or the speci?cation of database integrity constraints or computer security protocols, and more. Of particular interest is the interaction between computer systems and their users.

This book presents revised versions of selected papers from the 6th Workshop on Model Checking and Artificial Intelligence, MoChArt 2010, held in Atlanta, GA, USA in July 2010, as well as papers contributed subsequent to the workshop. The 7 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. In addition, the book also contains an extended abstract of the invited talk held at the workshop. The topics covered by these papers are general search algorithms, application of AI techniques to automated program verification, multiagent systems and epistemic logic, abstraction, epistemic model checking, and theory of model checking.

This book presents a case study of the development of a smart contract, from the analysis of the legal contract to the structural design of the smart contract and implementation on the Ethereum blockchain. It identifies approaches to avoid or lessen the impact of pitfalls. And it discusses strategies to address the interaction between parties to the smart contract and legal authorities. The legal contract that is implemented is the simple agreement for future equity (or SAFE), which is widely used for financing startup companies. The analysis of this contract has the additional advantage that it clarifies issues in the conversion of a SAFE contract to equity that are a source of confusion in practice. This book is of interest to anyone in the field of digital finance, as well as to venture capitalists and entrepreneurs making use of SAFEs.
