Leadership and followership are not just roles, but dynamic identities shaped by complex identity construction and deconstruction processes that define who leads, who follows, and how individuals navigate managerial transitions and changes in their roles. In The Oxford Handbook of Leadership, Followership, and Identity, Olga Epitropaki and Ronit Kark bring together prominent scholars to delve into the evolving field of leader and follower identity. They explore how our self-perceptions as leaders and followers can shape personal, team, and organizational outcomes, as well as how these identities evolve over time. Chapters highlight intrapersonal identity processes and identity development across diverse contexts; how relational and contextual factors influence leader and follower identities; the challenges of navigating multiple identities and identity tensions; intergroup leadership; cultural influences on identity integration; the role of vision communication in shaping collective identity; and the need for leadership development to extend beyond formal roles. Over the course of the book, chapter authors cover emerging themes, such as temporality, context, relational and collective elements, intersectionality, and critical perspectives, that capture the complexity of leader-follower identity processes and open new pathways for theoretical and empirical research. By synthesizing cutting-edge research and offering forward-looking perspectives, the Handbook serves as a resource for leadership and organizational scholars and a springboard for innovative approaches to leadership development. Whether one's goal is to gain a deeper understanding of leadership and followership identity processes or to apply a novel approach to leadership development, this volume offers an essential roadmap for navigating the complexities of leadership, followership, and identity in modern organizations.

There has never been a better time to study, practice, and experience creative leadership. In the fluid and turbulent economic and social environments of the 21st century, creative leadership has become a cardinal force in the creation and evolution of adaptive organizations. In the last two decades, organizational science has witnessed a rapid increase in the number of studies on the nature, skills, and processes of creative leadership. The resulting accumulated body of knowledge has remained for many years dispersed and fragmented across multiple strands of organizational research. This volume seeks to foster the cross-fertilization of scientific knowledge and insight by bringing together authoritative contributions from leading scholars whose work is located in different strands of creative leadership research. Creative Leadership: Contexts and Prospects builds upon a recently introduced multi-context framework that integrates metatheoretically three conceptualizations of creative leadership found in the extant literature: Facilitating employee creativity; Directing the materialization of a leader’s creative vision; and Integrating heterogeneous creative contributions. These three conceptualizations reflect essential differences in the enactment of creative leadership across various collaborative contexts of creative work, and they underlie the intellectual efforts of different research strands. The collection of chapters in Creative Leadership: Contexts and Prospects offers the latest thinking on creative leadership in facilitative, directive, and integrative contexts, and a stimulating set of ideas for crafting the next generation of nuanced theories and empirical studies in the field.

The late Boas Shamir made a significant contribution to the development of novel theories and frameworks in the leadership field. He became one of the most influential figures in leadership research, and left behind him an outstanding body of work. Leadership Now: Reflections on the Legacy of Boas Shamir incorporates some of Boas Shamir's most classic and significant works, and includes contributions from a group that represent the most influential leaders in the field, up and coming scholars, as well as students of Boas Shamir. The first part of the book focuses on Shamir’s most influential work on the motivational effects of charismatic leaders. The second part follows with work on the charismatic relationship; reflecting the shift of Boas Shamir's work in the later parts of his career from a leader-centric focus to a closer examination of the relational aspects of leadership and the major effects followers have on the leadership process. The third part includes samples of this work on the role of the contextual factors in leadership. This volume aims to preserve Boas Shamir's legacy and inspire further generations of leadership scholars.
