The history of dance theory has never been told. Writers in every age have theorized prescriptively, according to their own needs and ideals, and theorists themselves having continually asserted the lack of any pre-existing dance theory. Dance Theory: Source Readings from Two Millenia of Western Dance revives and reintegrates dance theory as a field of historical dance studies, presenting a coherent reading of the interaction of theory and practice during two millennia of dance history. In fifty-five selected readings with explanatory text, this book follows the various constructions of dance theories as they have morphed and evolved in time, from ancient Greece to the twenty-first century.Dance Theory is a collection of source readings that, commensurate with current teaching practice, foregrounds dance and performance theory in its presentation of western dance forms. Divided into nine chapters organized chronologically by historical era and predominant intellectual and artistic currents, the book presents a history of an idea from one generation to another. Each chapter contains introductions that not only provide context and significance for the individual source readings, but also create narrative threads that link different chapters and time periods. Based entirely on primary sources, the book makes no claim to cite every source, but rather, in connecting the dots between significant high points, it attempts to trace a coherent and fair narrative of the evolution of dance theory as a concept in Western culture.

The problem of free will is one of the great perennial issues of philosophy and has been discussed and debated over many centuries. Even before the present Administrator of NASA, Daniel Goldin, made the phrase 'better, faster, cheaper' the slogan of at least the Office of Space Science, that same office under the Associate Administrator of Lennard Fisk and its Division of Solar System Exploration under the direction of Wes Huntress had begun a series of planetary spacecraft whose developmental cost, phase CID in the parlance of the trade, was to be held to under $150M. In order to get the program underway rapidly they chose two missions without the open solicitation now the hallmark of the program. One of these two missions, JPL' s Mars Pathfinder, was to be a technology demonstration mission with little immediate science return that would enable later high priority science missions to Mars. Many of the science investigations that were included had significant foreign contributions to keep NASA's cost of the mission within the Discovery budget. The second of these missions and the first to be launched was the Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous mission, or NEAR, awarded to Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory. This mission was quite different than Mars Pathfinder, being taken from the list of high priority objectives of the science community and emphasizing the science return and not the technology development of the mission. This mission was also to prove to be well under the $150M phase CID cap.

In the past few years, knowledge about methods for the numerical solution of two-point boundary value problems has increased significantly. Important theoretical and practical advances have been made in a number or fronts, although they are not adequately described in any tt'xt currently available. With this in mind, we organized an international workshop, devoted solely to this topic. Tht' workshop took place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, in July 1()"13, 1984. This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the workshop. Contributions to the workshop were in two formats. There were a small number of invited talks (ten of which are presented in this proceedings); the other contributions were in the rorm or poster sessions, for which there was no parallel activity in the workshop. We had attemptt'd to cover a number of topics and objectives in the talks. As a result, the general review papt'rs of O'Malley and Russell are intended to take a broader perspective, while the other papers aremore specific. The contributions in this volume are divided (somewhat arbitrarily) into five groups. The first group concerns fundamental issues like conditioning and decoupling, which have only rect'ntly gained a proper appreciation of their centrality. Understanding of certain aspects or shooting methods ties in with these fundamental concepts. The papers of Russell, dt' Hoog and Mattheij all deal with these issues.

From the womb to the grave our identity is challenged by the words of others, the words of ourselves, and the words of God. Mankind''s authentic identity is flawlessly displayed in Jesus, and Jesus is the authentic and flawless Word of God. Religion has given us a distorted view of God''s character. Only when we have an accurate view of God, will we recognize ourselves reflected in Jesus.
Indoctrination is a process of teaching one to accept a set of beliefs uncritically. Critical thinking is the process of separating Truth from lies. We would do well to heed God''s words spoken in Scripture, recorded in the Book of Jeremiah 8:8 (ESV); "How can you say, ''We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us''? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie." Jesus spent His entire ministry on planet earth refuting the distortions and lies taught under the religious leaders of the day. Only 2% of the population were literate in this culture and therefore depended on the educated to guide them into truth.
Jesus is truth in His very essence. He is described as "the WORD of GOD" in John chapter 1. Religion has equated the Bible to be the word of God. This has led to a myriad of interpretations, translations, and denominations all claiming to know the truth. Jesus said to the Religious teachers, and I believe is still saying this of many of our religious leaders today: "You scrutinize the Scriptures tirelessly, assuming that in them you embrace the life of the ages-yet I AM what the Scriptures are all about." (Mirror Study Bible). Jesus is the LOGOS (Word). Let me put it another way. Jesus is the Logic of God. "Logic is an absolute . . . for existence cannot BE what it is, and NOT BE what it is. It is obvious therefore that TRUTH and LOGIC are inseparable." (Roger Smalling D.Min)
We dare not sacrifice truth on the altar of indoctrination. Why do you believe what you believe? This is a crucial question to ask yourself. Know this. You will never be met with offence from God in questioning what you have been taught...even from "Biblical Scholars". God''s Spirit is your teacher, and resides in ALL mankind before time began. This indwelling is not by invitation (God did his part now I must do my part). Jesus, God and Spirit reside in us by proclamation and declaration before we were born. God is eternal. We were created in His image and likeness. God is love. God is Truth. God is Light. Believe in the absolute truth of your original design. Your identity is entwined in a matrix of love and grace devoid of any expectations and/or conditions to receive such. When our identity becomes entangled in laws and commandments, we loose sight of our true identity. Words of Judgement and condemnation, rejection, accusation or separation from any source, are not words of God. Remember this important fact! Believing does not make something true, therefore unbelief cannot make something not true.
