Christian and Social Democratic parties have been the driving force behind welfare state developments post-WWII. Obwohl nach drei Jahrzehnten des kollektiven Beschweigens seit den 1980er Jahren einige verdienstvolle Arbeiten zur soziologischen Fachgeschichte im Dritten Reich erschienen sind, haben diese nur vereinzelt und in Ausnahmesituationen Eingang ins Herz der Disziplin gefunden. Lange Zeit hat sich so der Mythos von der weißen Weste der Soziologie und der strukturellen Unvereinbarkeit von Soziologie und Nationalsozialismus gehalten. Diesen Mythos zu brechen ist das Ziel der vorliegenden Publikation, die die umfassenden vorhandenen Erkenntnisse zur Geschichte des Faches im Nationalsozialismus einer größeren LeserInnenschaft zugänglich machen möchte. Darüber hinaus wird in bislang nicht geschehener Weise die Bedeutung des Jenaer Soziologentreffens von 1934 für die Entwicklung der Soziologie im Nationalsozialismus und die Stilllegung der DGS herausgearbeitet und abschließend eine ebenso komprimierte wie umfassende Chronologie der Aufarbeitung von 1946 bis heute präsentiert.
