It emphasizes a logical approach to management decisions and addresses challenging or controversial clinical situations with evidence-based guidance. This book is designed to help paediatric surgery trainees prepare for their final exams and serve as a valuable resource for experienced surgeons and educators. Unlike other textbooks, it focuses on challenging and varied treatment aspects, offering clear clinical guidelines to aid decision-making. It addresses difficult clinical situations with practical management advice, essential for Fellowship exams and early career surgeons. Additionally, it provides knowledge on related specialties, crucial for managing patients with complex conditions and co-morbidities, supporting a multidisciplinary approach to care. Ideal for senior trainees preparing for final exams, this resource enhances understanding and supports sound clinical and operative decision-making. Covering neonatal, thoracic, gastrointestinal, oncological, urological, and interrelated surgical specialties in extensive detail, it is an invaluable tool for both trainees and experienced surgeons.

This study sets out to describe all aspects of a congenital anomaly which has been described as "the epitome of modern surgery" and "the raison d'etre of pediatric surgery". The book is presented in eight sections, commencing with a summary of the historical events of significance, followed by epidemiology and genetics, embryology, anatomy and pathophysiology. The clinical aspects commence with chapters dealing with diagnosis, transport, anaesthesia and intensive care. This is followed by a section which addresses the surgical aspects of the specific variants of the anormaly. A major problem in a baby with oesophageal atresia is the associated anomalies which are present in over 50% of the patients; therefore section 4 is devoted to the consideration of these anomalies with emphasis on the most important specific anomalies. It also includes the overall care of the child and family and to complete the monograph by describing the management of specific problems and complications, and the longterm results of surgery. This book is presented in the hope that it will be of help to all concerned with the care of the baby with oesophageal atresia and its family, recognizing that the field is wide, involving as it does representatives of many medical and paramedical disciplines.

JONES’ CLINICAL PAEDIATRIC SURGERY Jones’ Clinical Paediatric Surgery provides clear-sighted advice on the surgical options available for young patients. Building on the popular and successful style of previous editions, this fully revised seventh edition employs a systematic approach to the childhood diseases that need surgical treatment. It includes more case vignettes and colour photographs, expanded coverage on the use of imaging, and updated approaches to management including laparoscopic operations. Key subject areas are supported by case vignettes in a familiar format similar to what might appear in an OSCE viva. Jones’ Clinical Paediatric Surgery is the ideal guide for paeditricians, surgeons and trainees, as well as primary care physicians, junior doctors and medical students.

This book provides a state of the art overview of all aspects of testicular descent and cryptorchidism, including the mechanisms of descent and the causes, consequences, diagnosis, and treatment of undescended testis. The advances in understanding that have been achieved over the past two decades are clearly explained, covering the latest genetic information on the causes of normal and abnormal testicular descent, the role of INSL3 in transabdominal migration, and the evidence that a neurotransmitter released from the genitofemoral nerve mediates androgenic control of inguinoscrotal descent. Exciting changes in the management of both congenital and acquired cryptorchidism, such as the widespread use of laparoscopy for impalpable testes inside the abdominal cavity, are fully described. Evidence for the benefits of orchidopexy within the first year of life is reviewed, and an individual chapter is also devoted to hormonal treatment. Throughout the book due attention is given to ongoing controversies and divergences of opinion. This new edition of Descent of the Testis will be a timely update and valuable reference for all who are involved in research into testicular descent and management of cryptorchidism.

This book demonstrates clearly how to perform a clinical examination in the infant or child with a surgical condition. While most textbooks of pediatric surgery focus on the pathological classification and overall management of disease, in clinical practice physicians and surgeons usually use a problem-oriented approach to clinical diagnosis. Surprisingly, this is rarely taught to students. The authors attempt to redress this imbalance by providing a clinical approach to the patient which can be learned with a minimum of factual information. The book should therefore remain useful to the practitioner throughout his or her medical career. It includes detailed coverage of the usual presentations of common diseases, but does not attempt to cover all aspects of the presentations of uncommon diseases unless their recognition is important for the well-being or survival of the child. Generously illustrated, this is a book for all who are learning the art of pediatric surgical diagnosis.
