The author argues that women's "extravagant affections" for the ordinary and extraordinary in life - which include an openness to ambiguity, an honouring of the diversity of experience and a concern for justice - provide a new and exciting way of understanding the sacrements. So although women are still excluded from most official sacramental leadership, they are engaged in sacramental ministry at many levels.

Durante estos últimos años se ha prestado una gran atención al tema del significado teológico de la relaciones entre el cristianismo, el consumismo y el mercado. Desde la perspectiva de la antropología teológica, las cuestiones de los deseos humanos -de Dios, de otros seres humanos, de bienes materiales- sugieren que mientras que no podamos vivir sin alimentarnos, vestirnos y refugiarnos, nuestros deseos, aparentemente insaciables, un tema sobre el que tan elocuentemente habló san Agustín, aún tienen el poder de consumirnos.

A lo largo de la historia, frecuentemente la religión ha estado conectada a la identidad y funcionado como soporte o defensa de la política dominante. Surge esta pregunta: ¿cómo puede la religión devenir y seguir siendo la principal fuerza motora de acción no violenta, reconciliación y búsqueda de justicia en sociedades afectadas por conflictos graves? Para ser verdaderas constructoras de la paz, las religiones necesitan tener en cuenta la naturaleza fluida y porosa de todas las identidades -incluidas las religiosas-, cultivar un sentido de identidad poliédrica en la vida de los individuos y de las comunidades, juntar fuerzas con iniciativas de la sociedad civil y de movimientos sociales, promover la equidad y la justicia, y ayudar a sanar recuerdos y reescribir la historia.

La «familia» se ha identificado a menudo como «iglesia doméstica». Aprendemos a ser cristianos en nuestras familias. Como siempre ha mantenido la doctrina católica, los padres ejemplarizan la relación de Cristo y la Iglesia, y los hijos son la encarnación del amor de sus padres. Las experiencias familiares, para bien o para mal, nos configuran como las personas que llegamos a ser. Pero las familias se están haciendo cada vez más complejas y tienen que afrontar desafíos que no tienen respuestas fáciles, ni por parte de la Iglesia ni por la sociedad.

El nacionalismo de derechos está en ascenso, y las vidas de las minorías se ven colocadas bajo una constante amenaza: la reciente victoria de Donald Trump en los Estados Unidos y su "America first"; el éxito del brexit y los mensajes de preferencia hacia el "nativo británico" para el trabajo; Marine Le Pen y su Frente Nacional francés, que promete un referéndum por el frexit paralelo al del Reino Unido; Rodrigo Duterte, elegido en fecha reciente presidente de Filipinas, caso más complejo y ambivalente. Este número de Concilium quiere tratar la ambivalente relación con el poder en el fenómeno de las "minorías", y cómo influye la presencia de minorías en la forma en que hacemos teología: ¿Cómo nos ayudan estas minorías a repensar nuestras categorías teológicas?
