Of the millions of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), adults represent the fastest growing segment of the population. Unfortunately, clinical research has not kept up with the population surge, leaving insufficient guidance for proper support and treatment for adults who have ASD.Psychological Therapies for Adults with Autism aims to fill the gap between research and treatment for adults with ASD. Serving as a compendium of diverse, research-supported treatment approaches, chapters are written by internationally recognized experts and include case studies to illustrate this research in practice. Interventions featured include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, and many others. In addition, several chapters explore special topics such as employment preparation and managing intense emotion. The book also outlines a range of adaptations that can enhance the accessibility, acceptability and effectiveness of therapy, equipping practitioners with more personalized tools for better treatment outcomes in adult clients with ASD.

At the founding in 1896 of the first psychological clinic dedicated to children and adolescents, the study of the psychological treatment of young people lagged behind that of adults, and the basic psychopathology underlying mental disorders in this population was largely ignored. Since those early days, the field has evolved steadily and, in recent years, exponentially. The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology is a state-of-the-science volume providing comprehensive coverage of the psychological problems and disorders of childhood. International in scope and penned by the discipline's most eminent scientists and practitioners, the handbook begins with a section on conceptual and empirical issues, followed by exceptional content on specific psychiatric disorders such as intellectual disability, externalizing and internalizing disorders, communication disorders, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and many more. The third section offers chapters on special problems in childhood and adolescence, including divorce, the incarceration of parents, suicide and non-suicidal self-injury, bullying, and medical illness. A fourth section covers delivery of clinical services in diverse settings, such as schools and prisons, and the handbook concludes with several chapters on emerging trends and future directions for the field. Conceptually rich and evidence-based, this handbook is an essential resource for students, practitioners, and researchers, providing a cutting-edge compendium of the latest theoretical and empirical developments by leaders of the discipline.

Co-occurring psychiatric conditions are extremely common among people who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Oxford Handbook of Autism and Co-Occurring Psychiatric Conditions presents a compilation of the latest research in this area, summarized by internationally renowned experts. Each chapter presents an overview of the problem or disorder including information on prevalence in ASD and in the general public and a synthesis of the research on etiology, diagnostic best practices, and evidence-based intervention approaches. Case studies bring these concepts to life, and each chapter concludes with suggestions for future research directions in order to further develop our scientific and clinical understanding of the particular comorbidity. Given the fact that comorbidity is often a chronic and pervasive concern, this Handbook takes a lifespan approach, with each chapter touching on developmental aspects of the targeted problem, from early childhood through adulthood. The concluding section of the Handbook is comprised of content on clinical considerations and research approaches, including chapters on medications commonly used to treat co-occurring conditions, strategies for managing crisis situations in this clinical population, and community partnerships within an implementation science framework.

STEPS (Stepped Transition to Employment and Postsecondary Education Success) is an evidence-based program designed to help autistic young people feel better prepared for independent adulthood. The curriculum has evolved through several clinical trials, as well as input from community-based stakeholders. STEPS focuses on building up self-determination, self-regulation, and self-knowledge to help people develop the skills needed to reach their goals in education and employment. This manual provides a step-by-step guide to carry out the program and is designed to be easily picked up by the provider (e.g., therapist, educator) and used in individual or group settings, through personalized training and in-community "immersion" sessions. It can be used in conjunction with an accompanying workbook.

The diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has evolved greatly since Asperger's day. And as our clinical understanding of this spectrum of disorders has grown, so has recognition of the connections between anxiety disorders and ASD—a welcome development, but also a source of confusion for many in the field. The Handbook of Autism and Anxiety brings together leading experts to explain this comorbidity, the diagnostic similarities and differences between the two disorders and the extent to which treatment for each can be coordinated for optimum results. Focusing on repetitive behaviors, social difficulties and fears as core components of anxiety disorders as well as ASD, contributors discuss specific symptoms in depth to aid in diagnosis. Assessment and treatment issues relevant to the autism-anxiety connection are considered in clinical and school contexts. And an especially timely conclusion details how key changes in the DSM-5 affect the diagnosis and conceptualization of each disorder.Key topics addressed in the Handbook include: Phenotypic variability in ASD: clinical considerations.Etiologic factors and transdiagnostic processes.Social worries and difficulties: autism and/or social anxiety disorder?Implementing group CBT interventions for youth with ASD and anxiety in clinical practice.Autism and anxiety in school settings.DSM-5 and autism spectrum disorder. The Handbook of Autism and Anxiety is an essential resource for researchers, clinicians/professionals and graduate students in child and school psychology, psychiatry, social work, education, clinical counseling and behavioral therapy.
