Pandemics, global climate chaos, worldwide migration crises? These phenomena are provoking traumatic experiences in unprecedented ways and numbers. This book is targeted for clinicians, scientists, cultural theorists, and other scholars and students of trauma studies interested in cultivating interdisciplinary understandings of trauma and posttraumatic conditions, especially resistance, resilience, and posttraumatic growth. Following clinicians’ invitation for trauma survivors to wear a philosopher’s hat, to engage in creative activities, and to employ cognitive exercises to combat psychic constriction, I introduce the concept of a Literary Arts Praxis. The Praxis is built on clinical research and literature seeped in existential, phenomenological, and aesthetic themes. I argue that an educational training in a Praxis might help trauma survivors to get at trauma, as they engage in imaginative escapades, while forging alliances with characters; interpretative exercises, such as triggering emotions through phenomenological experiences; and creative writing endeavors, that include turning testimonies into imaginative stories.

Paris and Its Revolutionary Ideas: A Guide to French Culture and the Capital takes readers on an innovative journey by inviting them to reconsider the term "revolution." Rather than exploring historical narratives about bayonets and bricks, LaLonde argues that revolutions take place in minds and hearts through exposure to the arts. Turning to architecture, art, and literature populating and depicting Paris, the book explores ten revolutionary ideas that have promoted a greater sense of dignity for humankind and the natural environment. These ideas are investigated in the Louvre, the Panthéon, the Orsay Museum, the Quai Branly Museum, and the Natural History Museum, among other Parisian sites. Turning to writers such as Montaigne, Rousseau, Staël, Fanon, and Le Clézio, the text highlights notions from tolerance to a social contract and an ecological renaissance. These writers lived through equally tumultuous times. Amidst dystopias, they envisioned utopias and built cathedrals of hope in Paris and beyond. Their enlightened ideas are relevant and inspiring as we build societies on the solid foundation of dignity.Groundbreaking and unique, Paris and Its Revolutionary Ideas is an ideal text for students and researchers of French culture.

In light of the challenges facing the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and its implementing agreements, this Research Handbook explores how issues including climate change, technological developments and increasing geopolitical instability threaten our seas.Contributing authors undertake a comprehensive examination of the foundational regimes outlined in the law of the sea, from traditional rules such as the freedom of navigation on the high seas, to emerging developments such as the issue of unmanned ships. Chapters cover key themes, namely the spatial and substantive limits of maritime zones, the new challenges in navigating the high seas regime, the legal regime for the seabed, emerging issues and litigating the law of the sea. Addressing 19 distinct challenges, both classic and contemporary, this Research Handbook debates whether the existing laws of the sea are still relevant and effective, or whether they require adaptation and revision.A valuable resource for scholars and students interested in the law of the sea, this Research Handbook is of great benefit to those within the fields of international law, international relations and business dependent on the sea and its legal order. Detailing the necessary adjustments and changes in current legal regimes, this Handbook is also an essential read for government officials, counsel members, judges and arbitrators.
