Die Wirksamkeit eines Medikamentes oder Giftes läßt sich nicht mehr ausschließlich mit klas- schen pharmakologischen und toxikologischen Methoden verstehen. H- zugekommen sind die Molekularbiologie und die Biotechnologie sowie neue Forschungsgebiete wie Pharmakogenomik, Systembiologie und Bio- formatik. Auch die Stammzellbiologie wird in Zukunft eine wichtige Rolle für die Medikamentenentwicklung spielen. Die rasanten Fortschritte der Lebenswissenschaften machen es notwendig, die traditionellen Lehrinhalte durch neue, spannende Erkenntnisse zu ergänzen und diese in kompakter Form den Studierenden nahezubringen.
