Modeling Technoscience and Nanotechnology Assessment
Perspectives and Dilemmas
AvEwa Binczyk,Tomasz Stepien
Inbunden, Engelska, 2014
662 kr
Skickas inom 5-8 vardagar
This book is presented by two authors who worked in close cooperation. The first part is written by Ewa Bińczyk and discusses various postulates that have been formulated in response to the problem of the unwanted side-effects of the practical success of technoscience which derive from two theoretical perspectives: the study of risk and science and technology studies (STS), inspired by actor-network theory (ANT). In the second part of the book Tomasz Stępień analyses and characterizes the nano-domain as an example of the development of techno-sciences. Generally, in the case of nanotechnology this book calibrates reciprocally to each other the indeed familiar but also slightly different theoretical approaches established in the philosophy of science and technology.

Philosophical Framing in the Case of Nanotechnology
AvTomasz Stępień
Inbunden, Engelska, 2016
995 kr
Skickas inom 5-8 vardagar
Confronted with the accelerated development of science and technology the presented analyses are focusing on three predominant theoretical approaches in the philosophy of science and technology: technoscience (STS), technology assessment (TA) and converging technologies (NBIC). On this base are extrapolated the coordinates of the heuristics of technosciences which are recognized as the platform of understanding but also dealing with technoscientific innovations. This concerns especially nanotechnology and the emerging theoretical, methodological, ethical, socio-political controversies and dilemmas. In this manner the book epitomizes the elaborated to date approaches and designs the heuristic turn as the strategy of comprehensive understanding of technosciences.

Unknown God, Known in His Activities
Incomprehensibility of God during the Trinitarian Controversy of the 4th Century
AvTomasz Stępień,Karolina Kochańczyk-Bonińskam. fl.

What can man know about God? This question became one of the main problems during the 4th-century Trinitarian controversy, which is the focus of this book. Especially during the second phase of the conflict, the claims of Anomean Eunomius caused an emphatic response of Orthodox writers, mainly Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nyssa. Eunomius formulated two ways of theology to show that we can know both the substance (ousia) and activities (energeiai) of God. The Orthodox Fathers demonstrated that we can know only the external activities of God, while the essence is entirely incomprehensible. Therefore the 4th-century discussion on whether the Father and the Son are of the same substance was the turning point in the development of negative theology and shaping the Christian conception of God.

Idea of Divine Providence in Ancient Thought
AvTomasz Stępień
Inbunden, Engelska, 2026
657 kr
Skickas inom 5-8 vardagar
This book explores the idea of order and meaning of events in human life as it emerged in Ancient Greek thought and developed within early Christian theology. In Greek philosophy, especially among the Stoics, the concept of cosmic order culminated in the notion of Providence, understood as the universal law governing the cosmos. While absent from the Bible, the idea of Providence was adopted by Christian authors, who transformed it into the expression of God's personal care for both the individual and the Church. In this perspective, Providence is revealed above all in the economy of salvation, reaching its climax in the Incarnation, the Cross, and the Resurrection of Christ. Thus, the impersonal notion of cosmic order was reshaped into a vision of divine love and care directed toward human salvation.

AvTomasz Stepien,Tadeusz Guz
Inbunden, Tyska, 2011

Jahrhunderts.
