I realised about ten years ago that I had an aptitude for making people laugh. Writing short essays about lurid girls’ holidays in Spain, and trips to sheds by the south coast with the husband was the catalyst to start my Words from a Bird blog back in 2016. Why did I do it? With four adult children just about to launch themselves onto an unsuspecting world, the timing felt right to do something I loved and maybe show them a side of me that they might not have seen before. So, on New Year’s Day, I put fingers to keyboard. My life is much the same as any other middle-aged woman and as the days of writing unfolded, it became obvious that I was attracting other ladies who were going through all the same things as I was, and they followed/liked/stalked me daily to see what nonsense I’d been up to. Eight years on, life has changed dramatically but my blog continues to make people laugh which makes me very happy. I never planned to publish a book, but for my sixtieth birthday last year, the now adult children presented me with four paperbacks that contained all of my blatherings from 2016 through to 2023. It shocked me to see exactly how much I’d written and gave me the required kick up the derriere to do something bigger.Let me introduce you to the main cast of this first book at the start of 2016.Daughter number one is Sophie. She is a new teacher and rules the roost. Son number one is Samuel. He is at university and spends most weekends in a rugby shirt. Daughter number two is Gaby. She is at university and is a genius with numbers.Son number two is Elliot. He’s just finishing school and heading off to university. The husband is Neil. The love of my life.
