In many regions of the world the twenty-first century has started with a structure of endless challenges for social work. Social work seems to be in demand almost everywhere, from support schemes for children and young people into adulthood and on to support for elderly people, in community work in cities and rural regions, in disaster relief and in care for refugees. This book describes the field of social work – its themes, problems and methods – in the face of the concept of the second, reflexive modernisation. The question needs to be asked of how, and whether, social work’s success story from the first modernity can continue. We discuss the second modernity as a time of blurring boundaries. Today, it frequently faces the problem that the organised terms of its approaches come up against a social reality where the frameworks of social life are becoming dynamic. Normalised structures are dissolving or becoming mixed with new ones; boundaries are blurring and new ones appearing.

Das Lehrbuch ist eine elementare Einführung, die Soziale Arbeit in Kernbegriffen und Gegenständen für das Studium an Hochschulen aufbereitet. In kompakten und gut lesbaren Beiträgen erklären ausgewiesene Fachexpert_innen grundlegende Zugänge und Zusammenhänge. Ziel ist es, Studierenden einen strukturierten Überblick über die Basics des Themenfeldes zu geben und durch weiterführende Hinweise und Vorschläge eine intensivere Bearbeitung zu ermöglichen.

Die ausgewählten Themen orientieren sich an gängigen Modulbeschreibungen grundständiger Studiengänge im Sozialwesen. Studierende erhalten gesichertes Grundlagenwissen zu allen relevanten Themen in einem Band und einen optimalen Einstieg in das Studium.

Der Band geht der Frage nach, welche aktuelle Bedeutung die Jugendforschung in der Erziehungswissenschaft hat. In den Beiträgen wird diskutiert, wie das Gegenstandsfeld Jugend in der Erziehungswissenschaft aktuell konturiert ist und mit welchen theoretischen und methodischen Zugängen es bearbeitet wird. Darüber hinaus wird untersucht, wie die Jugendforschung in die verschiedenen subdisziplinären Zusammenhänge und nachbardisziplinären Bezüge eingebunden ist und vor welche jugend-, forschungs- und disziplinpolitischen Herausforderungen eine erziehungswissenschaftlich orientierte Jugendforschung aktuell gestellt ist.

Der Band stellt die Frage nach den Konstitutionsbedingungen von pädagogischen Institutionen als zentrale Mechanismen der (formalen) Durchsetzung der Jugendphase ins Zentrum. Dabei rücken Momente des Auseinanderdriftens von (sozial-)pädagogischen Institutionalisierungen und sich wandelnden Praktiken von Jugend in den Fokus und es wird ausgelotet, wann und in welcher Form sich darin Krisen von Institutionen des Jugendalters abzeichnen und diese dazu herausfordern, sich neu zu positionieren. Ziel ist es, die Institutionenperspektive innerhalb der erziehungswissenschaftlichen Jugendforschung zu schärfen und mit ihr diagnostizierte Krisen offenzulegen, sodass sowohl ‚die‘ Jugend und ihre krisenhaften Institutionen als auch die Krise der Institutionen und (ihre) Jugend klarer konturiert werden (können).

Der Sammelband enthält die Beiträge zu dem Zweiten „Forum Kinder- und Jugendhilferecht“, das sich mit praktischen Fragen der Rechtsdurchsetzung in der Kinder- und Jugendhilfe beschäftigt hat. Neben den Ansprüchen und Verfahrensregelungen des reformierten SGB VIII kommen u.a. auch die Perspektiven des Völkerrechts, des Familienrechts und der Praxis zur Sprache. Der Band gibt einen kompakten und aktuellen Überblick zu Chancen und Problemen des geltenden Rechts und diskutiert vielfältige Ideen für die Fortentwicklung wirksamer Durchsetzungsmechanismen.
