Under the waves of merger and acquisition, prevalent at the beginning of the 21st century, many multinational firms have to achieve several goals, sometimes in conflict, and so there is a great need to effectively manage the ever leaner and more divergent work force. The HRM function in multinational firms is developing to fulfil this need by helping firms to use the knowledge employees from all regions have of their tasks through human intelligence deployment. Contributors focus particularly on the challenges faced by firms with multinational subsidiaries, within which HRM systems have often been operating in very different ways, and they show that there is value in identifying and understanding those differing approaches. This book aims to help managers of multinational firms to deploy their staff more effectively and shows how human intelligence deployment may be the way to improve long term profitability of their firms if considered as part of a global HR strategy.

Human resource management performs a different function and operates very differently in Asia to its practice in the US and Europe. This volume demonstrates how human resource management is enacted in Asian countries, how it is changing in response to recent economic events, and how firms are linking indigenous and external human resource management learning. Examples are taken from firms in Japan, China, Korea and Thailand, and thes e domestic approaches are then considered in the context of joint ventures. As well as providing a detailed analysis of Asian human resource management, contributors with perspectives from both the East and the West show how multinational firms can incorporate Asian thinking and acting into a modern business strategy for successful human resource development in international ventures.

Is it possible, given culturally incongruent perspectives, to validate any common standards of behaviour? Is cultural relativity be a problem when cultures are porous? Can we implement human rights without incorporating the idea into the fabric of culture? This book addresses such questions with an inventive and original understanding of culture.

Convert low-carbon molecules into high-value products using zeolite catalysis Converting abundant low-carbon molecules like CO, CO2, methane, and methanol into valuable chemicals requires robust catalysts with precise control over activity and selectivity. Zeolite Catalysis for Low-Carbon Molecule Conversion: Synthesis, Characterization, and Applications provides researchers and engineers with detailed guidance on designing metal-zeolite bifunctional catalysts that outperform single-function alternatives in activity, selectivity, and stability. This reference covers synthesis and characterization of zeolite-encapsulated catalysts and hierarchical zeolites, then examines catalytic conversion of CO, CO2, methane, and methanol over various zeolite types. Additional chapters address hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, and oxidation reactions. Novel preparation methods enable tailoring zeolite pores and properties for specific applications, connecting fundamental principles with industrial implementation. The book also covers: Detailed methods for synthesizing zeolite-encapsulated catalysts and hierarchical zeolites with tunable acidities and uniform micropore structuresCharacterization techniques for analyzing zeolite properties including pore structure, thermal stability, and catalytic performance under operating conditionsCatalytic conversion pathways for C1 chemicals and light alkenes derived from fossil fuels and biomass feedstocksMetal-zeolite bifunctional catalyst design using impregnation, ion exchange, and in-situ synthesis to optimize activity and selectivityIndustrial applications in heterogeneous catalytic processes including hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, and selective oxidation reactionsCatalytic chemists, materials scientists, chemical engineers, and industrial researchers seeking to advance zeolite-based catalysis will benefit from this reference. By connecting catalyst design principles with practical conversion processes, Zeolite Catalysis for Low-Carbon Molecule Conversion supports both fundamental research and commercial development of sustainable chemical production technologies.
