The focus of this book is to demystify the requirements delineated within ISO/IEC 17025:2017, while providing a road map for organizations wishing to receive accreditation for their laboratories.AS9100, ISO 9001:2015, and ISO 13485:2016 are standards that have been created to support the development and implementation of effective approaches to quality management, and are recognized blueprints for the establishment of a quality management system (QMS) for many diverse industries. Similar to these recognized QMS standards, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for laboratory accreditation serves a unique purpose. It is not unusual for laboratories to retain dual certification in ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017. However, ISO/IEC 17025:2017 contains requirements specific to the laboratory environment that are not addressed by ISO 9001:2015.This book highlights those differences between ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025:2017, while providing practical insight and tools needed for laboratories wishing to achieve or sustain accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. For those currently or formerly accredited to the 2005 version of ISO/IEC 17025, an appendix outlines the changes between the 2005 and 2017 versions of the standard.

This best-seller is fully revised and updated! Its goal is still to give readers practical insight into how they can create a coherent business process improvement system. Author Bjørn Andersen works from the premise that consistently working on improving various aspects of how things are done, large and small, is the key to success for any organization. The first half presents an overall business process improvement model, with the ensuing chapters dealing with topics of understanding and modeling your current business processes, using performance measurement in improvement work, creating a business process improvement roadmap, and organizing for improvement work. The second half of the book presents the overall toolbox, followed by one chapter for each phase of the overall improvement model. For each of these phases, a selection of suitable tools is presented with background, steps to use them, and an example of their use. The final two chapters contain two more extensive case studies illustrating the use of the full methodology. And finally, a number of templates can be found at the very end of the book, templates that support most of the tools presented. This book is suitable for employees and managers at any organizational level in any type of industry, including service, manufacturing, and the public sector. It should also be useful as a textbook for students in courses relating to quality management and continuous improvement.

Finally, a comprehensive process audit checklist has been developed to be used with ISO 9001:2000! This manual was developed to assist anyone involved with conducting or planning quality system audits including quality auditors, quality managers, quality system coordinators, management representatives, and quality engineers. In addition, potential auditees in any function or position should find the questions useful in preparing for an audit. Although the checklist could be amended to work for a service company, the manual was created with a focus on the manufacturing sector to cover common processes such as production, management, customer-related, design and development, training, purchasing, etc. The manual includes: a brief overview of the process approach, discussion of problem areas often found by third party auditors, the process audit checklist, and forms to be used in conjunction with the process audit checklist to increase audit effectiveness.

If a business expects to be a player in their market segment, their product(s) must have the quality expected by their customers. This can only be accomplished with test equipment that produces repeatable, accurate, and traceable measurements and/or outputs. Without a quality calibration system in place, this cannot and will not happen. This book is about how to design, implement, maintain, and continuously improve a quality calibration system, with all the required documentation, traceability, and known uncertainty for each and every item of test equipment owned and used by any company, large or small. It will benefit companies that want to implement a program and also those that already have one in place. Some industries have tighter requirements than others on how they treat calibration; some are more specific about how their standards are read, while being vague about what is needed to meet calibration. Is there one tried-and-true quality calibration system that every organization can use as a foundation for its personalized program? There certainly is, and The Quality Calibration Handbook describes it. By using the quality calibration system outlined and demonstrated, any organization can put together its own version to meet its specific requirements and/or regulations. Quality calibration systems are the very foundation for improving research and development (R&D), production, and quality assurance arenas through accurate, reliable, and traceable calibrations of their test equipment. By ensuring the calibration of test equipment used in the production of genetic identity kits used by law enforcement at crime scenes, the guilty are often caught and the innocent exonerated. Calibrated test equipment used in support of the airline and automotive industries helps prevent disasters. At pharmaceutical companies, calibration technicians quietly lay the foundation for quality treatments that help keep us healthy, cure diseases, and sometimes prevent death. This book explains why a quality calibration system can be the difference between life and death, success and failure, andmost important to shareholders and boards of directorsprofit and loss. COMMENTS FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS Average Customer Rating (5 of 5 based on 4 reviews) "This book offers me the information I need to upgrade the quality of the service I provide to customers. This handbook supports the quality auditor Body of Knowledge (BoK), developed for the ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) program. This fourth edition addresses new and expanded BoK topics, common auditing (quality, environmental, safety, and so on) methods, and process auditing. It is designed to provide practical guidance for system and process auditors. Practitioners in the field provided content, example audit situations, stories, and review comments as the handbook evolved. New to the fourth edition are the topics of common and special causes, outliers, and risk management tools. Besides the new topics, many current topics have been expanded to reflect changes in auditing practices since 2004 and ISO 19011 guidance, and they have been rewritten to promote the common elements of all types of system and process audits. The handbook can be used by new auditors to gain an understanding of auditing. Experienced auditors will find it to be a useful reference. Audit managers and quality managers can use the handbook as a guide for leading their auditing programs. The handbook may also be used by trainers and educators as source material for teaching the fundamentals of auditing.

To compete successfully in today’s economy, organizations need to be as good as or better than their global competitors. This goes not only for quality, but also for costs and cycle times (lead time, processing time, delivery time, set-up time, response time, etc.). Lean addresses these needs in its emphasis on teamwork, continuous training and learning, produce to demand (“pull”), mass customization and batch size reduction, cellular flow, quick changeover, and total productive maintenance.Originally applied in manufacturing settings, lean has now migrated to non-shop floor activities: in business support functions, such as sales, customer service, accounting, human resources, engineering, purchasing; within manufacturing firms; and also in purely service areas like finance, government, and healthcare. The intended audience for this book is any quality or operational professional who wants to start their lean journey or enhance their career opportunities. After introducing the concepts of lean and kaizen, various building blocks of a lean enterprise are described. After reading this book, any reader will have a foundation of what is understood today as "lean." All the examples of kaizens presented in the book are from the authors'' experience associated with real lean transformations. In addition, the forms, figures, and checklists included as part of this book and also on the accompanying CD-ROM can be customized and used in the readers’ own lean journey when they perform kaizens.COMMENTS FROM OTHER CUSTOMERS Average Customer Rating: (4 of 5 based on 1 review) "This book gives a great introduction to kaizen, along with a sensible "how to" and several case studies across various industries, including for non-manufacturing applications. It also gives a good introduction to Lean in general, and it places enough emphasis on the "human side" of implementing Lean so that the reader walks away with an understanding that the Lean tools may be fairly simple but the implementation of them requires special attention to human nature and the associated challenges. It is easy to read and comprehend. Plenty of pictures and samples are provided. This could easily be used as a training tool for employees who will be serving on kaizen teams." Some organizations just get by. While they may realize some successes over time, they often aren’t traceable to the organization’s quality management system (QMS). Other organizations can trace performance improvements to their QMSs, and therefore are able to sustain and expand upon them. Working from the tenet that performance improvement is too important to be left to chance, the authors of Unlocking the Power of Your QMS have meticulously combed the most fundamental, globally accepted quality standards and criteria, and have culled 12 principles that can serve as a foundation for mature quality management systems. Next, through an assessment by top management, the mission, vision, and business model of the organization are determined and aligned with these 12 principles.West and Cianfrani make the case that “…there is nothing an organization can do that can have more benefit than the development and deployment of its principles.” This book not only convinces you, it provides you with the guidelines you need to dramatically improve performance in your organization.

Audit – now there’s a word that can strike terror into your heart. Whether it’s the IRS looking over your shoulder or a quality tool utilized by your company, it requires accountability. A software audit monitors the development process and provides management with an independent view of the software development status. The purpose of this book is to remove the terror and error while improving the audit process.Software is not produced on a production line; the only thing that is the same on all software projects is that there is input and output. Everything in the middle is customized for the project at hand. Thus, The Software Audit Guide does not contain a one-size-fits-all approach. It gives a choice of areas to audit and different questions that should be asked within these areas. This book provides a flexible, user-friendly checklist of more than 1,300 questions designed to stimulate creative thinking that will ultimately result in the best possible software audit.

The intent of this book is to give interested parties an overview of green and its impact on business, without spending countless hours researching the subject. It provides information in a manner that can be used to help businesses determine the role green will play in their futures. The book is not intended as a detailed implementation guide, but as an aid in understanding the current thinking on what green really is and what an organization can do.The book is presented in three major sections. The first section is intended to give an overall understanding of what is meant by green, a brief history of the environmental movement as it relates to business, trends in carbon measuring and reporting, and definitions of green. The second section discusses standards, certifications, and measurements that relate to green and environmental management. The final section presents methods that may be used to implement and manage green processes within an organization, along with tools and a road map that may be used by those companies seeking to become green. The road map utilizes process improvement tools that will be familiar to many organizations.

5S is a simple and immensely practical approach to quality improvement which, when implemented effectively, can transform the fabric of a company. Traditionally used in manufacturing companies for little more than housekeeping, its latent power has yet to be leveraged by service companies. Author Debashis Sarkar has pioneered a blueprint for 5S implementation that can take service organizations to greater heights. The principles can also be applied to offices, education institutes, hospitals, and also manufacturing companies who wish to adopt 5S to its full potential. Immensely practical and hands-on, this book is based on the author’s experience in catalyzing an enterprise-wide 5S implementation in India’s largest private sector bank, spread across more than 700 locations not only in India but also in places such as Canada, Singapore, Dubai, and London. This change initiative touched more than 15,000 people and had the involvement of employees across all levels of the organization. The book is based on all that he applied and learnt during this massive roll out. 5S can be converted to a management practice when implemented as a change initiative involving the organization at all levels, from the CEO to the process associate. Implementation requires an all-encompassing workplace system comprising structure, people, processes, practices, and infrastructure. Such a holistic implementation moves 5S away from being just another methodology and to an intervention that can change the hearts and minds of the employees, irrespective of the state of maturity of the organization in improvements. Includes numerous templates that can be used to implement the ideas contained in the book.

Healthcare organizations and professionals have long needed a straightforward workbook to facilitate the process of root cause analysis (RCA). While other industries employ the RCA tools liberally and train facilitators thoroughly, healthcare has lagged in establishing and resourcing a quality culture. Presently, a growing number of third-party stakeholders are holding access to accreditation and reimbursement pending demonstration of a full response to events outside of expected practice. An increasing number of exceptions to healthcare practice have precipitated a strong response advocating the use of proven quality tools in the industry. In addition, the industry has now expanded its scope beyond the hospital walls to many ancillary healthcare facilities with little experience in implementing quality tools. This book responds to the demand for a RCA workbook written specifically for healthcare, yet still broad in its definition of the industry. This book contains everything that the typical RCA leader in healthcare requires:A text specific to healthcare, but using the broadest definition of the industry to include not only acute care hospitals, but rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, outpatient surgery centers, ambulatory services, and general office practices.A workbook-style format that walks through the process, step-by-step.Straightforward text without “sidebars,” “tables,” and “tips.” Worksheets are provided at the end of the book to reduce reader distraction within the text.A wide range of real-world examples.Format for use by the most naive of users and most basic of processes, as well as a separate section for more advanced users or more complex issues. Templates, both print and electronic, included for the reader’s use. Ready-to-use educational materials with scripting to enable the user to train others and garner support for the use of the techniques. Background text for users in leadership to understand the tools in the larger context of healthcare improvement. Up-to-date information on the latest in the use of RCA in satisfying mandatory reporting requirements and slaying the myth that the process is onerous and fraught with barriers. Background text and tools/process are separated to facilitate the readers’ specific needs. Healthcare leaders can appreciate the current context and requirements without wading through the actual techniques; end-users can begin learning the skills without wading through dense administrative text.Language and tone promoting the use of the tools for improvement of processes that have experienced exceptions, as opposed to assigning blame for errors.Attention to process ownership, training, and resourcing. And, most importantly, thorough description of the improvement process as well as the analysis.
