Embedded in the simplicity of each message, I found a nugget of pure gold. The value thereof is without measure and will be a blessing to everyone who read it. May the blessings of our Heavenly Father be with this precious book. (Author: Hephzibah Maritz, Tygervalley)

The authors skilfully recount the inspiring stories of several 'ordinary' but remarkable persons who have been called - and who faithfully obeyed thecalling! to make a signifi cant diff erence by being a blessing to many people, transforming communities and erecting hopeful signs of the coming of God s kingdom. What they achieved is indeed remarkable, but they all are quick to testify: it is not us, but rather the hand of God using us as building bricks. The book is well written, captivating and intended for a broad readership. This is indeed a seminal book, making a great contributionto the kingdom of God in South Africa, Africa and further abroad.

Daarvan vertel hierdie boek. Soos Johann self sê: “Die manier waarop ek hoop verander my lewe ... in ’n seën of in ’n vloek”. Hierdie boek sal jou help om met “seën” te hoop!

Christianity in Eurafrica is an impressive book, meticulously researched and well written by a professional scholar. The first chapter includes some valuable historiographical guidelines for writing and understanding the History of the Church. In its first part, the book traces the history of the Church in the Middle East and Europe, explaining the roots of theological diversity to this day. In the second part, the author narrates how the Faith moved south, took root in African soil and grew independently. Many pictures and illustrations serve to further enliven the account. Steven Paas, taught Theology in Malawi for many years. He writes from a deep knowledge of and love for the Lord's Church, especially in Africa and Europe. This textbook on the history of Christianity in two continents fits with the curricula of institutions of theological training in Africa and the West. The content is especially aimed at students who prepare for the ministry and for Christian education. The book is, however, also invaluable for all scholars of the History of Christianity.

In Prophecy today: reflections from a Southern African context, a group of theologians and scholars of religion from Zambia and South Africa reflects upon these questions. Anthropologists, Biblical scholars, practical theologians and others shine their light on what prophecy can mean today in this context. This book aims at stimulating a continuing Southern African discourse on this very interesting and relevant aspect of Christianity in our region. The book consists of 15 different articles by well-known scholars and has been ably compiled and edited by Dr Hermen Kroesbergen, lecturer in Systematic Theology and Philosophy of Religion at Justo Mwale University, Lusaka, Zambia.

'We believe that a person always stands before God, hand in hand with others, and at the same time with others before God.'With these words the authors, theologians and therapists, alert us to the importance of understanding a person within her or his relational network (context). This context refers not only to the current relational network but also to the generations before us and the generations to come. In this way the conflicts of the past generations but also their resources, influence the people of the current generation and this in turn has an influence on the unborn generations. Family loyalty predetermines the choices we make and the priorities we set. How can family loyalty be a liberating motivation as a legacy for living with each other but also for meeting with others outside the family and even outside their own heritage and influences regarding e.g. ethnicity, culture, politics and religion/church? The aim of the contextual pastoral care approach is to develop a greater understanding between people and culture within their specific contexts and participate in restoring trust and trustworthiness within their relations. In this way God is in our midst on our journey towards fairness, trust and hope. This intergenerational dialogical approach was inspired by the work of the Hungarian /American family therapist and psychiatrist, Ivan Boszormenyi-Nagy, and was later in turn inspired by scholars such as Martin Buber and Emmanuel Levinas. The Unexpected Third is used in many pastoral courses, academic, post-academic and practical, in the Netherlands and in Eastern-Europe. It is received as a meaningful contribution to Practical Theology and Pastoral care for individual counselling, family care and also for reworking certain conflicts in the parish and community.

In this book the reader is presented with a journey or a process of moving towards positive intercultural awareness. The hope is that this positive awareness can result in a different understanding of other cultures that can lead to tolerance between cultural groups and a celebration of the value of diversity that will transform intercultural relationships. The title of this book From my own to the unknown and back to my own places the emphasis on the practical journey towards intercultural relationships. The thinking behind this has deeply to do with the transformation of ourselves that takes place in the journey with the unknown, which then in turn has a transformative impact on ourselves.

Angry love – Memoirs of a fellow Seeker for a Better Country is the autobiographic recollection of an exceptional life journey. Jenni Kirby grew up in Apartheid South Africa. As young Coloured girl she had been adversely impacted by Apartheid; she vividly recalls profound experiences. She angrily joined the Struggle. During the 1970s she met a fellow white activist and they fell in love. The young couple experienced rejection from all sides; it had still been against the law to be in relationship across the colour bar. They eventually found themselves exiles in Britain, but there they encountered new challenges. In the UK Jenni entered into the ministry as a Methodist minister, but she could never detach from her mother country. These memoirs are about her pilgrimage in seeking a better country, it is about relationships and being connected, about identity and rejection, the struggle between anger and love, and about the inner journey towards grace. It is a remarkable story, captivating and brilliantly written.
