An insight into the life and mind of an icon of American art through the diaries of sculptor Eva Hesse.‘I open my new book. What will you tell for the next year. To bring forth a new chapter of wisdom, hopes, joys fears. I shall be honest with myself; and therewith SUCCEED.’ These lines open Eva Hesse’s 1955 diary and lay out the task of her writing. In between weekly to-do lists and personal musings, Hesse used her diaries as a space to process her experience of the world and to reckon with what it means to be an artist. In this extensive collection of Hesse’s diaries, recorded from 1955 to 1970, readers are given an intimate glimpse into the mind of one of contemporary sculpture’s most prominent figures. Despite personal tragedies and the difficulties she faced as one of the few female artists in the male-dominated postminimalist movement, Hesse remained intrepid in both her life and craft. Composed of twisted ropes and delicate plastic among other unconventional materials, Hesse’s sculptures defy traditional notions of form; her deeply thoughtful practice as a sculptor and a painter are revealed at length in her writing.

A meticulous facsimile of the legendary monograph and draft catalogue raisonné, originally conceived in 1959 by Marcel Duchamp in collaboration with Robert Lebel, back in print after decades.Marcel Duchamp, the artist’s first legendary monograph and draft catalogue raisonné, was written by art historian and novelist Robert Lebel and published in French in 1959; later that same year, it was translated into English by George Heard Hamilton for Grove Press. The book was a cooperation between Lebel and Duchamp, and beyond Lebel’s extensive writing and bibliography, additional chapters were authored by Duchamp, H.P. Roché and André Breton. The coupling of these texts with diverse archival photographs and an illustrated compendium of Duchamp’s artworks delivered a complex and personal rendering of the artist’s life and inner circle. For the first time since its release more than 60 years ago, this landmark publication is back in circulation with Hauser & Wirth Publishers’ meticulous facsimile of the English edition, reflecting everything from its hand-tipped images to its recto-verso dust jacket appearing as close to the original as possible.

Discover Angel Otero’s remarkable artistic practice in this new publication examining recent developments in his groundbreaking work.Working in a signature process of painting in reverse on acrylic sheets, scraping off the resulting “skins” of oil paint, and collaging them onto canvas, Puerto Rican artist Angel Otero has intertwined the act of painting with the act of remembering. This book focuses on his recent work—a turn to figuration that builds on the formal experimentation of his early abstract painting—documenting exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth in 2022, 2023, and 2024 alongside contemporaneous works and culminating in his 2026 exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Somerset. Essays by curators John Tain and Tobias Ostrander consider Otero’s relationship with the past— whether art historical or personal—and a conversation between Otero and curator Julie Rodrigues Widholm captures the artist’s approach in his own words.

McKim’s writings capture daily life at their home and studio in Woodstock, trips to New York City, travels abroad to Mexico and Italy, and time spent at various artist residencies. A rich collection of artworks and archival images documents the couple’s domestic and social lives and the fellow artists and writers who made up their world. An in-depth study of Mary Heilmann’s mesmerizing works on paper that explores drawing as a form of daydreaming and memory-making for the influential abstract painter. Mary Heilmann’s works on paper are suffused with the same sensibility as her influential abstract paintings, a casual playfulness animating a rigorous attention to form and colour, resulting in joyful, evocative geometries. Their suggestive power reflects Heilmann’s process of what she calls “daydreaming”: a conjuring of the sights, sounds, and events of past and future travels, the cyclical nature of memory informing her return to various motifs across nearly five decades of work. Edited and with an introduction by curator Alexis Lowry, Mary Heilmann: Works on Paper, 1973–2019 includes an essay by art historian Jo Applin and a personal reflection by painter Ilana Savdie, all together offering a compelling account of this previously underexamined aspect of Heilmann’s practice. Complementing Heilmann’s 2024 exhibition Daydream Nation at Hauser & Wirth New York, 22nd Street, Works on Paper, 1973–2019 is edited and introduced by Alexis Lowry, with an essay by art historian Jo Applin and a personal reflection by artist Illana Savdie, together offering a compelling account of Heilmann’s captivating work and its casual meditative power.

The second volume, Lines, delves into the eponymous body of work of fundamental importance to his well-known Achromes – paintings without color, which aimed to strip his work of expression. Extensively illustrated, both volumes feature art historical essays alongside a host of archival material, making this one of the most comprehensive sources on the artist to date.

A new, fully transcribed edition of the celebrated collection of Jack Whitten’s wide-ranging, perceptive writings When it was originally published in 2018, Notes from the Woodshed marked the first time that a book had been devoted to the writings of pioneering American artist Jack Whitten. Edited by art historian Katy Siegel, this new edition of the celebrated publication now presents a fully transcribed collection of Whitten’s insightful, searching writings, alongside a new afterword in the form of a conversation between curators Matilde Guidelli-Guidi and Zoé Whitley and artist Glenn Ligon. Widely renowned for his experimental approach to painting, Whitten often turned to writing as away to investigate, understand, and grapple with his practice and his milieu. Taking its title from the heading that Whitten scrawled across many of his texts—a term borrowed from the world of jazz that means “to practice in private”—Notes from the Woodshed is a fascinating, intimate insight into an artist at work.

A beautifully produced exhibition catalogue celebrating the work of Vilhelm Hammershøi featuring rarely exhibited works and essays from leading Hammershøi expert Felix Krämer and art historian Florian Illies. His remarkably modernist sensibility continues to capture the imaginations of contemporary audiences around the globe, with major international retrospectives and exhibitions on view over the last twenty years from London to Tokyo. Accompanying the inaugural exhibition of Hauser & Wirth’s new Basel gallery––the first ever solo show of Hammershøi’s work in Switzerland––'Silence' offers an in-depth understanding of Hammershøi’s highly individual artistic language, encapsulated in eighteen works, all from private collections and some rarely exhibited before. Bringing together the interior paintings for which Hammershøi is best known with farmstead paintings, cityscapes, and a rare self-portrait, 'Silence' demonstrates the breadth and depth of the artist’s practice. The works’ quiet yet radical originality positions the artist as a powerful precursor to the modern masters who were to come. With illuminating essays by Felix Krämer, the exhibition’s curator and a leading expert on Hammershøi, and Florian Illies, art historian and bestselling author of 'Love in a Time of Hate' and '1913: The Year Before the Storm', 'Silence' is an essential resource on the celebrated painter.

The artist’s biography as told by Metzger himself, a leader of the Auto-Destructive Art and Art Strike movements. A visionary artist and radical thinker, Gustav Metzger asked provocative questions about the role of the artist and of conventional forms of artmaking and display. In this richly illustrated book, Metzger tells the story of his life and work in a series of interviews with the curator Hans Ulrich Obrist. He recounts his Orthodox Jewish childhood in 1930s Nuremberg and his arrival in England as part of the Kindertransport before shedding light on his development as an artist, including his early contributions to computer art, his leading role in the Destruction in Art Symposium of 1966, and his call for an ‘art strike’ from 1977–80. An artist for our times, Metzger’s uncompromising commitment to combating environmental destruction was fundamental to his understanding of art as a vehicle for change. This publication speaks emphatically to the undimmed urgency of Metzger’s artistic position, offering an insight into his interests in ecology and nature and, in the later part of his life, the threat of extinction and the motto he adapted from W. H. Auden: ‘We must become idealists or die.’

Focusing on the artist’s daring and provocative paintings, this new publication offers a fascinating introduction to Lee Lozano’s pioneering practice. During her short but prolific career, Lee Lozano produced a body of work of striking formal breadth and complexity, ranging from expressionist figurative drawings and paintings to minimalist abstract canvases and, finally, the late conceptual works for which she become well-known. An illuminating text by Lucrezia Calabrò Visconti—co-curator of 'Lee Lozano: Strike', a major survey exhibition that travelled from Turin’s Pinacoteca Agnelli to Paris’s Bourse de Commerce — is accompanied by a meticulous exhibition history that features a wealth of ephemera and archival material. Remembered for her withdrawal and ultimate rejection of the art world, Lozano produced an oeuvre united by her determination to expose the ruthless division of the world into categories such as gender and to reject capitalism’s demand for constant production. Capturing the unapologetic confidence and striking complexity that defined the artist’s singular practice, In the Studio: Lee Lozano is an excellent resource for both newcomers and longtime admirers of Lozano’s radical work.
