Weber wrote that capitalism in northern Europe evolved when the Protestant (particularly Calvinist) ethic influenced large numbers of people to engage in work in the secular world, developing their own enterprises and engaging in trade and the accumulation of wealth for investment. The Protestant ethic was a force behind an unplanned and uncoordinated mass action that influenced the development of capitalism. Religious devotion, however, usually accompanied a rejection of worldly affairs, including the pursuit of wealth and possessions. But that was not the case with Protestantism. Weber addresses this apparent paradox in this book.

“I want this book to be the simplest, clearest, frankest work I have the power to make it, that I may encourage you to function imaginatively, that you may open your "Immortal Eyes inwards into the Worlds of Thought," where you behold every desire of your heart as ripe grain "white already to harvest." Truth depends upon the intensity of the imagination, not upon external facts. Facts are the fruit bearing witness of the use or misuse of the imagination. Man becomes what he imagines. He has a self-determined history. Imagination is the way, the truth, the life revealed.” —Neville Goddard

"Becoming aware of . . . one great emotion permeates your being. You live with a perpetual feeling of reverence. The knowledge that your creator is the very self of yourself and never would have made you had he not loved you must fill your heart with devotion, yes, with adoration. One knowing glimpse of the world about you at any single instant of time is sufficient to fill you with profound awe and a feeling of worship. It is when your feeling of reverence is most intense that you are closest to God, and when you are closest to God your life is richest." -Neville Goddard

A Night in the Lonesome October is Roger Zelazny’s homage to gothic horror and early horror movies. It is at once delightful, humorous, poetic, and gleefully dark. Whenever a full moon falls on All Hallow’s Eve the conditions are such that a gate may be opened to allow the Elder Gods to return from the Nether Regions to which they have been banished. Snuff, a preternatural guard dog, and his owner Jack the Ripper, are closers—that is, they and others of their persuasion arrive in the time and place where the gate might open, in order to prevent the Elder God’s return. Each chapter encompasses a single day in the month of October. Many of Zelazny’s fans read a single chapter each night every October. Wonderfully illustrated with 32 Gahan Wilson Illustrations this cult classic is a delightful and macabre fast-paced romp. Without a doubt one of Zelazny’s best.

St. Francis of Assisi is perhaps the most important of the non-apostle saints. He was born to wealth and privilege in Assisi, Italy in 1181. As a youth he dreamed of military glory and lived the decadent lifestyle one would expect from of a wealthy, young Italian man. In 1202 Francis went off to war and was subsequently captured and spent a year of hardship in Collestrada as a prisoner of war. In 1205 he set off to war again, but this time God sent him a vision and he returned home and took up a religion. What followed was a most remarkable life. St. Francis founded an order in the Catholic Church devoted to helping those in poverty. No other saint embodied the teaching of Christ in quite such an emblematic way. Here G. K. Chesterton gives us the definitive biography of this most amazing man.

As a satire, ''Flatland'' offered pointed observations on the social hierarchy of Victorian culture. However, the novella''s more enduring contribution is its examination of dimensions: Noted science writer Isaac Asimov described ''Flatland'' as "The best introduction one can find into the manner of perceiving dimensions." As such, the novella is still popular amongst mathematics, physics and computer science students. This fully-illustrated story is about a two-dimensional world referred to as Flatland. The unnamed narrator, a humble square (the social caste of gentlemen and professionals), guides us through some of the implications of life in two dimensions. The Square has a dream about a visit to a one-dimensional world (Lineland), and attempts to convince the realm''s ignorant monarch of a second dimension, but finds that it is essentially impossible to make him see outside of his eternally straight line.
