Japanese jazz bars and coffee shops are insular worlds where time ceases to exist, removed from the speed and chaos of the modern urban landscape. Tokyo Jazz Joints is a visual chronicle of this unique culture that captures the transient beauty of these spaces. Established in 2015 to document Tokyo's myriad Atjazu kissatenas, the project has gradually expanded to cover the whole of Japan. These dedicated jazz listening spaces are slowly vanishing in the face of changing trends, ageing customers and gentrification. This book preserves these living museums before they disappear forever. Tokyo Jazz Joints is a documentary photography project by Northern Irish photographer Philip Arneill, in collaboration with American broadcaster James Catchpole, both long-term residents of Japan.

The small coastal village of Torekov, Sweden, is known for both its local pier, 'Morgonbryggan', and for the associated daily ritual of a morning dip in the sea. Locals and summer guests are avid disciples of this sacred ritual which can be both solitary and social. There are unwritten codes of behavior related with this activity, including the most visually obvious, the selection of one's bathrobe. Through the slow and repetitive process of working with a large format film camera, the photographer Peggy Anderson has gained insight into this community, her native country and her own place within it.

In his new photobook, Summer of the Fawn, Alain Laboile once again provides insight into the free and nearly fairytale-like life of his family in a small village in the southwest of France. Far away from social constraints, school stress, Facebook & Co., it always seems to be summer here, and his six children frolic barefoot in an enchanted garden, in which one encounters cats, grass snakes, and even a fawn.

Former public defender Sara Bennett spent over a decade photographing women convicted of homicide and sentenced to life in prison in New York State. Her long-term project traces the women's lives across time and space: inside prison walls, in their post-incarceration bedrooms, and as they re-enter the outside world after decades behind bars. Through intimate portraits and personal ephemera-Polaroids, letters, drawings, and handwritten notes-Bennett creates a layered narrative that offers a rare perspective, resisting stereotype. Looking Inside: Women with Life Sentences is a striking reminder of the complexity and humanity of women who are, and have always been, far more than the single act that sent them to prison for life. The publication is complemented by a powerful afterword by Judith Clark, who served 38 years in prison and is now Director of the Survivors Justice Project, alongside additional pictorial endnotes by Bennett that further expand the project's context.

A retrospective of one of the pioneers of early colour photography, Saul Leiter.

Arctic Heroes takes a poignant look at the fate of the Greenland sled dog. In Greenland, where the melting ice sheet is irrevocably disrupting the hunters' 4,000-year old traditional way of life, the stark reality of global warming is an immediate and direct threat to their everyday survival.

Spy games, espionage and secret documents: with The Plot, Irish photographer Martin Cregg presents an artistic enquiry into the undercover intelligence war between the IRA and British agents during the Irish War of Independence (1919-1921). Through a dialogue between photographs and historical documents as well as archival materials, the work traces a complex narrative of republican resistance-revealing efforts to violently eradicate members of the Crown forces in Dublin and overthrow British occupation of Ireland. Cregg's research led him to photograph sites once used for military drills and training, undercover munitions factories, and safe houses. Further, many locations photographed were sites of assassinations and failed ambush attempts. Texts and spy dispatches from the infamous Michael Collins intelligence files, as well as interviews from witness reports at the Bureau of Military History Archives in Dublin, are used to give voice to some of the main players of the time - from Ormonde Winters, head of I Division at Dublin Castle and David Nelligan, the infamous IRA spy in Dublin Castle to members of Michael Collins' group of assassins known as The Squad. The work is supplemented by an in-depth series of essays by Martin Cregg relating to the topic. Like the archival material it draws upon, the book itself must first be Åopened up.Ä Its contents become accessible- and irre-vocably ÅunsealedÄ-only once the sealed dust jacket has been cut open along the front edge of the book, following the dotted line, using a letter opener or another sharp blade.
