This is a practical guide to designing and evaluating behaviour change interventions and policies.

Behaviour change interventions are increasingly being delivered through digital channels including websites, smartphone apps, and wearables. While these new channels of delivery offer huge opportunities for novel and personalised interventions, they also come with their own specific challenges and difficulties.

This monograph is an ideal starting point for anyone wanting to understand more about digital behaviour change interventions, offering plenty of references and links for more in depth reading on each of the topics discussed.

This comprehensive guide outlines the current state of research around digital behaviour change interventions and provide guidelines for the development of new digital interventions. It discusses intervention techniques uniquely possible with digital technology such as personalised and just-in-time interventions as well as general intervention design and evaluation rules and guidance.

In this comprehensive book the authors examine the health effects of each of the major illicit drugs. All the major drug classes are covered: psychostimulants, opioids, cannabis, hallucinogens and ‘novel psychoactive substances’. Each chapter presents the epidemiology of use, user characteristics, dependence, drug toxicity, mortality, the effects upon each major organ system, and associated psychiatric morbidities.

The Guide is an essential reference for medical practitioners, physicians in training, nurses, treatment providers, researchers, behavioural scientists and the interested layperson.

The authors have skillfully integrated an extraordinary amount of research to produce clear, evidence-based, guidance for a wide range of health and social care interventions.

How can I tell what I really want?

How can I stop doing things I don’t enjoy?

How do random rewards control our behaviour?

How can I avoid doomscrolling?

In this book, Professor Robert West and his son, Jamie, once again delve into the psychology of motivation, this time focussing on our ‘animal brain’, the part responsible for habits, instincts and desires.

Packed with information, humour and practical tips, React explores the basic building blocks of behaviour and reveals how we can take control of our impulses so they work for, rather than against, us.
