Beskrivning
for SATB (with divisions) and pianoThis sombre and evocative 'Stabat mater' is taken from Passion Music, a concert and liturgical work that continues Todd's fusion of jazz and choral music so successfully blended in his Mass in Blue. The delicate piano part often falls away to spiritual a cappella sections, and a soaring line for solo soprano rises out of the texture to draw the setting to a close.

Mer om författaren

British composer and pianist Will Todd has worked at the Royal Opera House, the Lincoln Center in New York, London's Barbican, and with Welsh National Opera, award-winning choirs The Sixteen, BBC Singers, and Tenebrae. He travels extensively world-wide, workshopping with choirs, and conducting performances of his works. Will's music is valued for its melodic intensity and harmonic skill, often incorporating jazz colours, and his choral music is much in demand from amateur as well as professional performers. He is best-known for his choral works, and his jazz-inspired Mass in Blue has been performed hundreds of times since its premiere in 2003. This has been followed by his critically acclaimed Passion Music. His anthem, The Call of Wisdom, was commissioned for HRH The Queen's Diamond Jubilee service at Westminster Abbey.

Recensioner i media

Oxford University Press has made this movement from Will Todd's larger work Passion Music available for independent performance . . . The soprano solo (or semi-chorus) is more straight-laced than the solo writing in other movements of Passion Music, which requires a singer familiar with gospel style. In all regards, this movement is the section of the larger work that most suggests autonomous use by a traditional church choir . . . Given the ubiquity of this text, having a jazz flavored setting as an alternative to other settings makes this a useful addition to libraries.
