This is the seventh volume of the Lexicon of Greek Personal Names to be published, a work which offers comprehensive documentation of named individuals in the Greek-speaking world in the period from c. 700 BC to 600 AD, drawn from all sources (predominantly written in Greek and to a lesser extent in Latin). It is the second of three volumes that comprise the personal names attested in Asia Minor. This particular volume is concerned with its southern coast, incorporating the ancient regions of Caria, Lycia, Pamphylia, and Cilicia, and thus completes coverage of the coastal regions. The volume documents more than 44,500 individuals who between them bore in excess of 8,400 different names. In contrast to those parts of Asia Minor facing the Aegean, Propontis, and Black Sea, there was little Greek settlement along the southern coast. So, in this volume particular interest attaches to the very large number of non-Greek names originating in the languages of the indigenous peoples of these regions - Carian, Lycian, Sidetic, and Pisidian - all of them descended from the Hittite-Luwian languages spoken in Anatolia in the second and early first millennia BC. The volume provides the raw material that allows us to see how indigenous names gave way first to Greek and later to Latin names, and how the pace of these changes varies from one region to another as one aspect of those processes of acculturation labelled as 'hellenization' and 'Romanization'. It contains a detailed introduction which addresses the definition of each of the regions and their cultural identity in terms both of geography and language and onomastics. It also guides the user through some of the problems of topography, dialect, and the treatment of non-Greek names, as well as providing some detailed statistics that point to interesting regional patterns.

This book dealing with stance and motion was planned in June 1986 at a meeting held in Moscow and Leningrad between a group of Soviet and French scientists interested in motor control. This meeting took place in the framework of an exchange program between the USSR Academy of Seiences and the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. It was very successful event and was greatly appreciated by all those who attended it. Several participants put forward the proposal that the possibility of publishing a book was worth exploring. What were the reasons for publishing a book on stance and motion ? The interest aroused in the participants by each others contributions was not a sufficiently decisive argument. It was feit, however, that a large proportion of the orginal material presented at the meeting, especially in the field of posture and locomotion but also on other aspects covered by the book could be presented in a summarized form which should appeal to a larger audience because the facts and hypotheses they contained especially those from the Soviet participants, were not very familiar among international circles, and that many scientists would appreciate having a single volume containing a survey ofthe current state of research in this field. This was also the opinion of Plenum Press, who agreed to publish the book. Each participant at the meeting submitted a paper which was examined by two referees before being accepted.

Ballistic Imaging assesses the state of computer-based imaging technology in forensic firearms identification. The book evaluates the current law enforcement database of images of crime-related cartridge cases and bullets and recommends ways to improve the usefulness of the technology for suggesting leads in criminal investigations. It also advises against the construction of a national reference database that would include images from test-fires of every newly manufactured or imported firearm in the United States. The book also suggests further research on an alternate method for generating an investigative lead to the location where a gun was first sold: "microstamping," the direct imprinting of unique identifiers on firearm parts or ammunition.

This is a pedagogical introduction to the harmonic superspace method in extended supersymmetry. Inspired by exciting developments in superstring theory, it provides a systematic treatment of the quantum field theories with N=2 and N=3 supersymmetry in harmonic superspace. The authors present the harmonic superspace approach as a means of providing an off-shell description of the N=2 supersymmetric theories, both at the classical and quantum levels. Furthermore, they show how it offers a unique way to construct an off-shell formulation of a theory with higher supersymmetry, namely the N=3 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. Harmonic Superspace makes manifest many remarkable geometric properties of the N=2 theories, for example, the one-to-one correspondence between N=2 supersymmetric matter, and hyper-Kähler and quaternionic manifolds. The authors describe the principles of mass spectroscopy and the uses to which mass spectrometers are put. Following a brief description of early instruments, the text describes ion optics, sources and detectors, deflection-type instruments, non-magnetic instruments, isotopic abundance and atomic mass determinations. The number theoretic properties of curves of genus 2 are attracting increasing attention. This book provides new insights into this subject; much of the material here is entirely new, and none has appeared in book form before. Included is an explicit treatment of the Jacobian, which throws new light onto the geometry of the Kummer surface. The Mordell-Weil group can then be determined for many curves, and in many non-trivial cases all rational points can be found. The results exemplify the power of computer algebra in diophantine contexts, but computer expertise is not assumed in the main text. Number theorists, algebraic geometers and workers in related areas will find that this book offers unique insights into the arithmetic of curves of genus 2.
