Drinking water policies and research are intimately linked. It is thanks to the scientific progress made over the last 25 years in identifying and controlling toxic products in drinking water that regulations have developed in such a way that the protection of public health from waterborne diseases has drastically improved. The integration of research outputs into the policy-making progress requires close cooperation among the scientific and policy communities, which is not always straightforward. Exchanges among scientific and policy-making communities are certainly representing key elements of progress for a better environmental protection. In this respect, analytical developments linked to drinking water are at the core of the science-policy debate. This book "Analytical Methods for Drinking Water: Advances in Sampling and Analysis" reflects this awareness in joining recent analytical developments with policy considerations. A first chapter gives an overview of EU and US drinking water policies, as well as on standardization. Analytical developments are described in depth in the second chapter, focusing on bromate in drinking water. The third chapter deals with the development of a sampling protocol for lead in drinking water, thus mixing analytical development with standardization needs. Finally, the fourth chapter focuses on standardization aspects (pre-normative research) related to materials in contact with drinking water. This book, written by experts in the field of drinking water policy and analysis, illustrates recent scientific advances in this area, which have contributed to policy development and will be of direct use to policy-makers, water scientists, researchers and analytical laboratories.

Skickas inom 11-20 vardagar
Wide- scale chemical monitoring programmes are required by international conventions and European Union policies such as the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) and the new EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). This entails all waters, including transitional and coastal waters, sediments and biota. The final volume in the Water Quality Measurement Serieshighlights policy frameworks and analytical trends with an emphasis on laboratory methods and quality control.Within this comprehensive text, the following sections are included: Setting the Scene; monitoring of pollutantsPolicy Settings; international conventions and EU marine strategyMarine monitored parameters; trace elements, chemical species, organic micropollutants, and nutrientsTypes of monitoring; classical chemical monitoring, biomonitoring and in-situ methodsQuality assurance; certified reference materials for marine monitoringResearch and developments; the role of sediments in coastal monitoring, and passive sampling technologiesChemical Marine Monitoring: Policy Framework and Analytical Trends is intended for postgraduates and researchers working in analytical chemistry and its application to environmental and health analyses. Those interested in developing new methods and materials in relation to drinking water regulations with also find this book beneficial.

Skickas inom 7-10 vardagar
The issue of water quality monitoring is becoming a huge area as the EU requirements for cleaner water increase. On-line monitoring involves measuring a body of water constantly and in-situ as opposed to analysing samples in the lab. Currently filling the gap in the market, Wastewater Quality Monitoring: On-line Methods provides information on how to produce the best analyses of wastewater in order to meet the above mentioned requirements. This reference will prove invaluable to all local water companies, industrial companies producing wastewater, as well as environment agencies and researchers.

Quality assurance (QA) has become an increasingly important topic, as environmental monitoring bodies realize that accuracy of measurements can depend very much on how the measurement is taken. This book will describe methods in light of all of the European, US, and international (ISO) guidelines for QA of water analysis. It is the third book in the Water Quality Measurement Series, it tackles the growing problem of developing an international understanding for measurement and data collection. The author gives a detailed overview of:* The purpose of water analysis* Quality systems and quality control* Sources of error including sample contamination* Method validation* Certified reference materials* Data Reporting* Inter-laboratory studies

Skickas inom 7-10 vardagar
Provides an extensive overview of all the most important aspects oflake monitoring studies describing methods of water sampling, analytical determination and data interpretation. Now that all EC countries must receive the EC Directive on WaterQuality, there is a greater need to improve the quality ofmeasurements, both in chemical and biological fields and this bookdescribes the best practices in measuring water, quality, standardprocedures and quality assurance in relation to current legislationand guidelines. The book provides coverage of: ? Abiotic processes and harmful substances in lakes ? Biocoenosis in evaluating the ecological status of lakes ? New lake monitoring techniques ? Quality assessment ? Managing of results The book also addresses the most important problems currentlyimpacting lake resources: ? Eutrophication ? Water acidification and its impact on biodiversity ? The presence of endocrine disrupters ? The bioaccumulation of mercury in the food chain This is an essential guide to the subject for postgraduate studentsin environmental science and analytical chemistry, laboratoriesinvolved in water analysis, industrial companies producing effluentand regional environmental agencies. 'Hydrological and Limnological Aspects of Lake Monitoring' is thefirst book in the Water Quality Measurement Series, which providesa comprehensive coverage of the analytical techniques used for themeasurement of substances in water, from sampling through tolaboratory analysis. The series aims to offer practical answers tospecific issues related to measurements of the water cycle quality, using a scientifically sound approach.
