    Historieprofessor Cunliffes Europe Between the Oceans bygger på enorm historisk kunskap, Men han är gammaldags försiktig, t ex när han berättar om jättekratern från Vis i Frankrike (rymmer 1100 liter!), så nämner han inte att det är sannolikt att den användes till att servera öl eller mjöd på stora fester, som därmed gjorde prinsessan av Vix till en oerhört populär person, utan han säger bara att man funnit spår av mjöd i ett annat nästan lika stort kärl i en annan stad. Kan man inte läsa det underlydande budskapet förstår man inte den djupare betydelsen i det han berättar. Men det hör till den vetenskapliga metod han bekänner sig till. Bortsett från denna reservation är det en lysande bok!

    Som The Ancient Celts and Britain Begins uppfyller Cunliffe med sina utomordentliga böcker mitt behov att historia. Jag läser med strot intresse dennes verk.
