Conservation of Cultural Heritage from Marine and Freshwater Sites makes the most-recent analytical and conservation information about the conservation of wet cultural heritage available in one accessible, international publication.Chapters in the book are authored by renowned experts from around the world and are devoted to the identification, analysis, deterioration, on-site stabilisation, conservation and safe display and storage of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, leather, rope, bone, ivory, glass, ceramics, stone and composite objects. The book also includes material about in-situ stabilisation and reburial techniques, which is in line with current legislation and best practices for the protection of underwater cultural heritage. Drawing on both primary and secondary research, contributors provide practical advice relating to different conservation treatments and explain their applicability to particular situations and material types. Case studies cover the conservation of both wooden and iron shipwrecks and chapters provide technical and practical information regarding methodologies that are directly applicable to conservation treatments and analyses. Where practicable, information is provided about conservation practices that are sustainable and environmentally friendly.Conservation of Cultural Heritage from Marine and Freshwater Sites provides comprehensive and up-to-date preservation information for conservators, archaeologists, conservation scientists, students and anyone else interested in the stabilisation and deterioration of wet cultural heritage.
